You break these off like little matchsticks in a packet and, like a match, just the tip has the good stuff on it. And, like a match, each one is good for one use and then it's done. But that one use is enough to stop a small cut, be it from shaving or elsewhere. And as a bonus you get a nice, sharp sting.

OK, but deteriorate immediately after contact with water

These are OK for disposable 1x use items. They deteriorate immediately once in contact with water (a few times before I had a chance to use them, or as I was using them), so my hopes of getting a few applications out of one was not realistic.

Better to buy a styptic pencil.
