but it fits fine for where I need it
David S. Wilson•August 26, 2015
got this as a factory refurbished unit - spent hours looking for the kind of thing I needed - fm, dock, with audio in input. Didn't find that many options, and this was something I could afford. It's a little smaller than I thought, but it fits fine for where I need it. Very thin unit, so not the most powerful sound, but for my situation, where I couldn't fit anything larger,
it's perfect. It seems pretty intelligent, if the radio is playing and you dock an iPhone that's playing something, it will switch to that on it's own. Also when I plugged the phone in the dock, I got an alert on the phone that there is an app for it, which I downloaded. It's not really very useful, only viable feature seems to be you can store the radio presets, and label them, and if you lose your presets on the unit you can load them back in via the phone. There is a battery in the unit that I would think would allow it to be unplugged and not lose presets. I think it may also allow you to set the clock and the 2 alarms from your phone, so if you do actually use it as a clock radio, would be a good feature to set alarms that way and charge the phone while sleeping.

Works great on my iPhone 6
SS6•May 14, 2015
Works great on my iPhone 6. Sounds good, love the dual alarms with independent controls. Love that I can easily change the LCD brightness To off when I sleep, and it's the big snooze button that turns it on if I want to see the time in the middle of the night.
Only complaint is the buttons (snooze mainly) click really loud

An alarm impossible to sleep through
Alex F.•December 24, 2014
To preface, I'm an extremely heavy sleeper. Typically once I'm asleep for the night, I'm done until the morning. As such, I've also developed an uncanny ability to sleep through pretty much any alarm. The standard radio alarm I'd used for a decade just didn't cut the mustard anymore, so I tried to supplement it with a phone alarm. Why that even sounded like a logical idea considering the usual small speakers on phones is beyond me, but I tried to do two alarms. To no avail, the phone did pretty much nothing, so I turned on the vibration function of the phone alarm as well. The idea that the different noise and sound of the vibration on the nightstand would be different enough to wake me up and be a solution. Without spoiling the review, all I can say is once again it failed.
So after finding out the hard way that my radio alarm shuts off automatically after an hour of not being snoozed and finding myself inexplicably late to work (because everyone knows oversleeping is never a good excuse), I decided to spend on a new alarm clock. Given my situation of needing something powerful and with money being a secondary factor, I splurged on this one. At the time I bought it 2 months ago it was 80 bucks, which was pretty outlandish for something I'd use as just an alarm for, but considering the circumstances I pulled the trigger. Given the size of the product I figured it had to be loud.
Boy was I right about that. I have my iPod Nano connected to it at all times, and have used both the Nano playlists as an alarm, and the buzzer itself as the secondary. The buzzer is wildly inferior to the sound of the music, but with them set 5 minutes apart it helps to keep me from dozing back off, although I hear the music alarm every single time it goes off. I still find myself hitting the snooze button, but there's no worry about hitting it once and not hearing it again 40 minutes later. This is by far the loudest alarm clock I've ever heard, and for deep sleepers this is the remedy you've been looking for if you're in the same boat.
Though I don't use it for music often, the music quality is nice as well. Won't blow you away, but I've found myself using it for the tunes in the morning while getting ready for work, it fills the room nicely, though distorts at the higher volume (which isn't surprising given the volume you can get it to).
The other great thing about it is that it will save the alarms should you lose power. My very basic radio will reset to 12:00 when it turns back on, and likewise alarms will be reset as well. This one though actually sets the time itself automatically when you plug it in, and even retains the alarms when it comes back on. Very convenient.
The one odd fault I'd give it is that it will randomly skip tracks on my Nano though. Before the song ends it'll abruptly cut to the next track. I have no clue why it does this, or if it's an isolated problem and not a widespread one, but isn't enough to sway the review considering it's an alarm clock for me before a radio. I have one of Sony's portable bluetooth speakers that I use more than this when I need to play my ipod, so it doesn't occur enough to be a problem.
It looks like this is discontinued, but considering the performance I would strongly suggest getting one from another seller if you find your alarm to be inferior and lackluster.

It's perfect! There are two alarms that can be set ...
MemeSue•July 5, 2014
This is my second Sony Clock Radio Speaker Dock! When I purchased my first iPhone (4S), I tried several clock radio docks, and returned several clock radio docks. Then I discovered the Sony! It's perfect! There are two alarms that can be set to buzzer, iPhone, radio, music, etc. The music sounds great - at any volume! The controls are easy tCute!o operate - I enjoy the sleep and snooze features! The Clock Radio Dock and the way it's controls are set up just fit me to a "T". Then it gets even better - they give you a remote control! Sooo.... when I got my iPhone 5S, what did I do??? There was no searching for a different Clock Radio, I went straight to the website and purchased the Sony Clock Radio Speaker Dock for iPhone 5! I didn't think it was possible, but they've improved on the position of the controls. I love it even more! Now my granddaughter has my "old" radio for her iPod! She's very happy too!
One complicated deal!
Those Darn Donkeys!•April 15, 2014
I wanted to replace my Phillips small iPhone 4 charger/speaker that I keep bedside. That is all it did. Charge and speak. Fine with me. I really liked those Phillips charger speakers, had them in two sizes, three in total! Alas, the only Phillips I could find for my IPhone 5 was of a larger design. This is way larger than I need on bedside table but the measurements were better.
The sound quality is just great (for what it is), way better than some cheapo clock radio of the past.
I had to use the manual to figure out every feature. I doubt I ever use the alarm, just setting the time was an effort. It has twenty two buttons. One of those acts as two, hitting one side of it for one thing, and the other side for something else. It's a big button. (The one you would slap if you wanted to have it shut up and go back to sleep. For a few minutes.)
Maybe having two wake up times helps someone who wants to set it differently for different days a week. Or perhaps twice a day. I don't think two people can use it because it can only be in one place at a time. :_)
It is a quality product. I am keeping the manual in the bedside drawer.

Downgrading to 3 stars. I've had to use that "manual" (a huge sheet of paper with complex instructions spread all over) several times. Once I got the stations programmed and was so proud! Then there was a power outage. NEVER UNPLUG IT FOR ANY REASON IF YOU USE THE RADIO. The were lost. I will say, it uplinks to a satellite time so it auto sets time when power returns. Right now, the alarm goes off one day a week, mid day. I can't figure out how to make it stop. I HOPE THERE IS SOMETHING BETTER AND SMALLER AND SIMPLER ON THE MARKET NOW and there is no need to read this review anymore.
