Shoulder Season Heating Alternative

Let me preface this by saying the unit has only been running for a few days.
This is not the project for the average DIYer, but if you know how to flare and bend copper lines, have a vacuum pump and gauges, and how to run electrical wires you might be able to install this mini split. Installation was straight forward by the instructions but the wire colors and diagrams don't match. It's easy enough to correlate/verify the wire colors from inside to outside units. I had an HVAC tech friend oversee the installation and vacuuming of the unit and everything went very well. The instructions only called for a 20 minute vacuum down after a 5 min initial leak down test, I let it go 60 mins to be sure. After vacuuming, the refrigerant was released and I was advised to let the unit sit for an hour before starting, just to be sure the liquid was dispersed equally. Was it necessary? I don't know but it's what was recommended to me so I did it.
I've only used it for heat so far but it works amazingly well. I'm getting older and the appeal of firewood has passed. I still use firewood but hopefully I can transition to less labor intensive means for heating that won't break the bank. In 30 degree weather I'm spending about $1.25 per day for heat in my 800 square ft well insulated house. I'm super happy about that. This mini split is the answer to the shoulder seasons where it's not cold enough for wood fires but heat is still needed.
An important note about the remote is that it has to be pointed at the indoor unit or the temp will will default to the minimum 62 deg temp. Which is actually kind of a good thing because if the remote loses signal, or the batteries go dead, you'll still have heat. The downside is the lowest temp is 62 degrees. I know several people who'd like to get one of these units but don't like the fact that it can't be set to a lower temp of around 40-45 degrees when they go away for extended periods.
Also, the WIFI kit was included so there was no need to purchase it separately. I haven't used it yet but it was awesome that it was included and I didn't have to spend any more money on it.
One last thing, the outdoor unit does vibrate enough that it can be heard inside the house if it's hung on the wall. It's not enough to bother me but it can be heard, and if that's a problem then locating the outdoor unit away from living areas should be considered.

Great product for the DIYer with special notes

This is a perfect model for 850-1000 sq feet. The head unit and heat pump unit are very quiet and energy efficient. For the DIYer, the instructions need to be re-done, alot of details are missing. If you are going to tackle this on your own, here are a few good tips and know hows. First the instructions..the pictures are tiny and do not reflect the detail needed when doing a few of the critical steps (like electrical connections) I watched 3-4 videos of other installations of mini-splits and took good notes. Just read through the instructions first and watch a few videos. Second...performing the vacuum on the line is a critical step, knowing the tools required and the connectors is anohter very important aspect that should be in the instructions. I purchased a vacuum (not cleaner) to perform the vacuum procedure, but forgot the brass connector require to connect heat pump to vacuum! took three days to get one! Overall, I had the skills to do this myself and I installed in an afternoon. I also tackled the wiring, which required a 20amp double pole breaker, routing the 12 gauge wire in conduit to a AC cutoff box, also to the outside of house, then wire from AC box to Heat Pump and then wire the connection from head unit to Heat pump. Connecting the lines and the brass fittings; make sure you purchase the Nylog Gasket sealant, be careful with the brass piping, bend slow and easy to get the route needed from head unit to heat pump. After performing the vacuum test and leak test, I put both electrical switches on (AC Cut-off and 20amp double pole in breaker box) Turned the unit on and had instant AC and then switched over to heat! The remote is easy to use and had the option to control via Alexa or Senville app via smart phone, I connected to smart phone and boom! Full control and finally awesome heat for a little house. Also the SEER rating was really good and the unit is Energy Star, so plus plus. Overalll super happy and can be done by anyone with basic wiring, plumbing and handy person skills. Took me 4.5 hours in total. Going to purchase a few more for another project.
Game changer

Took a couple weeks after installing to write a review. Hugely impressed. First a shout out to Senville. At first I ordered the Leto but later found out our local power company had a generous rebate. They stopped the order and let me up grade to this model. Check your local power for rebates.
Was using in wall resistance heaters and window mounted AC. The Aura pumps out 2 to 3 times the volume and is MUCH more quiet.
Using auto it swaps from heating to cooling with no problem. In the PNW here it's been cool during the night and warm during the day.
Installation was simple enough but I had a HVAC friends test my lines before releasing the gas. Instruction book was a bit difficult to read.
Energy use is to early to tell but I have high hopes for it. This winter will tell.
Through researching minis I'm glad I went with this brand. Great reviews and what dealings I have had with Customer service has been positive.

Would give between 4 and 5 starts if it was an option.

We got this split unit this year instead of making costly repairs to our old steam heating system in our 120 year old ranch style farmhouse. We have not tried the cooling yet, but our house stays pretty cool in the summer and we barely ever use AC...so I'm sure it will work just fine. We mostly bought it for heating, and it has been almost exactly as we expected. It is installed in our main living space which is about 750sq ft not including a small hallway and four additional rooms that we keep the doors closed. We got the 18k btu aura model.
During cold weather, it heats great. During temps below freezing, it keeps up but struggles some. We have had some single digit temps and we have to run it at full steam...but it does keep it warm enough. We like it relatively warm compared to most though. We even had a blizzard this winter with over a foot of snow and it miraculously kept working away. It did freeze up to a huge block of ice at one point and I had to melt it with warm water because I was afraid of damage to the unit, but it kept working the entire time. I also shoveled the snow from around the unit and it. It is installed on a Senville standing mounting bracket something like a foot or so above grade.
The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the stated square footage it covers. We are on the low end of the suggested coverage but feels more like we are over. I would have to concede that our home is not superbly insulated and is quite old though, so anyone with a newer home will likely have better results. Also, the layout of our home required us to put the indoor unit in a less than ideal location in the corner of the room, likely exacerbating that particular issue. All in all, I would DEFINITELY recommend this unit. I've only had it for a couple of months now...but compared to heating fuel oil that we would have used during that time...it seems it will pay for itself within a single heating season of use...maybe two.
Hopefully it lasts a very long time.

Works great dont over tighten gas fittings

I finally got the wifi app to work. Dont use senville app. It would not setup for me after multiple tries. Just add device to Alexa app with blue plus top right. The QR code for the alexa usb device never work. Instead I selected my router and the app did find and setup the Senville minisplit without need of password. I have Android S8 phone. This app will allow temp control, fan speed, heat cool fan mode. Using a torque wrench on the fittings can result in overtorque of fittings. If you are not an expert with torgue wrench just tighten carefully (dont overtighten) without torque wrench. Best to shorten gas lines to allow oil to drain back via gravity back to compressor. The redundant gasline loops
Can prevent oil to drain back to compressor. Experts reccomend vacuum for about 3 hours with 1/4 hp vacuum pump to achieve the negative 500 level that can only be measured with a $100 micron vacuum gauge. If it will hold this negative 500 level no leaks will be present. If you use nylog use a very small amount at the tip of fitting, otherwise it could cause problems with the AC valves.
