To be fair, this might be a misapplication. I used this to in my truck to convert 12V to 5V to replace power for a failed 5V voltage regulator in the PCM. The problem might be that the PCM does manage to supply 5.2V most of the time and this would be back feeding into the DROK converter. Still... I'm surprised the converter failed. It was putting out 5.1V which was great, now it puts out 3.8V which isn't going to work for me.

I used this for a 12-volt POE setup which needs to supply about 0.8-1.2 amps to a device over 30 feet of 23-gage ethernet wires. The results are great!

Before purchasing the Drok, I tried using a 12-volt power supply at the source end, but lost about 0.5 volts over the ethernet run, and the device was drawing up to 1.2 amps over the 23-gage wires. Not very efficient, and pushing the limits of the 23-gage ethernet cable.

I replaced the 12-volt power supply with a 19-volt laptop power supply, connected the Drok at the other end of the ethernet cable and set it to 12-volts, and connected it to the device to the Drock. The result was much less current over the ethernet wires and a much more stable, reliable source of power to the device. The steady-state numbers are...

Source end: 18.5-volts and 0.49 amps
Device end: 12-volts and 0.72 amps
Overall efficiency: 95%

NOTE: When I tested the Drok regulator without the ethernet wires, it had a transfer efficiency of more than 98% while supplying about 1.5 amps, and it didn't even get warm. So most of the above power loss is due to the long run of ethernet cable.

Works great, and as advertised. Like several other reviewers, I like that the trim screw is inaccessible after mounting. That keeps me or anyone else from mucking with the settings accidentally.

I thought at first that it was broken because turning the trim screw appeared to do nothing to the output voltage, but I found that I just had to keep turning and turning. I eventually got the trim down into the range where it would adjust the output voltage.

If anyone else runs into this "problem", don't send the unit back until you try turning the screw about 50 times in the correct direction. In this case, counterclockwise lowers the output voltage, and clockwise raises it.

It's perfect!
I'm utilizing it to power a Rasperry Pi (first generation) for remote sensor monitoring. Easy to setup, with input/output voltages and wire input/outputs listed right on the device (no having to guess which set of wires is the input or output), and extremely stable. 10 volts gave me the same output as when I input 14 volts, no variance at all. It doesn't even get warm to the touch (keep in mind I'm only utilizing about 400mAH though).

The efficiency on this thing is amazing as well! Perfect for situations where you want to also be as effective as possible with your energy utilization. Even the tips of the wires are pre-tinned for easier soldering!

And add to that the extremely great price. I'll be buying more of these for sure in the future!
Works perfectly to limit solar panel output voltage for a low load 12 V pump

I am using this to allow me to use a 30 W solar panel to directly run a small solar water pump (12V) for a DIY water heater.

The little pump draws such a small load that if I connect it directly to the panel the voltage stays about 22 V in full sun, which is too much for the 12 V pump motor.

I connected this before to cap the panel voltage at 12 V. At full sun the setting of the variable voltage output screw gave me about 10.3 V (down from 22V) and about 1 and 1/4 turns clockwise got it to 12.0 V exactly for the output voltage.

At the sun goes down, the panel voltage drops and eventually (of course) the voltage output from this device drops below 12V. When the sun is enough to have the panel over 12 V, this caps the output at 12 V or below and the pump works perfectly.

I do not know how long it may last, but out of the box it performs perfectly.
