like a microphone and Star

My 4 year old received a set of Magformers for Christmas. Her and her 2 year brother haven't stopped playing with them since so we decided to buy more. They are able to build bigger objects. A small booklet is included with how to build a few objects, like a microphone and Star. My 4 year old is able to follow the images and re-create. They also use their imaginations to build buildings, trucks, homes and way more. Hours of fun!
I highly recommend these for girls and boys to develop motor skills ...

Our toddler loves these! She wears the square ones as bracelets sometimes. They are durable - they've been dropped and thrown on tile flooring and none of the plastic has chipped or shattered. The magnet is strong enough to stay put while building a structure but not so strong that our toddler gets frustrated that she can't pull them apart. I highly recommend these for girls and boys to develop motor skills and creative thinking.
Makes a great gift item too!

I am adding a solid 5-star review for Magformers. My daughter received a standard starter set as a gift well over a year ago. When we opened it, she must have been about 2-1/2 years old. We took it on a trip and she loved playing with it! A standard 30-piece set is great to start with, but you will find 30 pieces isn't enough to let your child's imagination fly free. We purchased another larger set through Amazon about two months after opening this standard set and will continue to add on to her set as long as she enjoys it. I have purchased this standard set as well as more complicated Magformer sets as gifts for her classmates birthdays. The attractive colors, durability and the creativity it inspires makes this a great toy for children.
Great toy! Make sure to assemble one-by-one

These are a great toy, and this is a good starter set. You'll be wanting to buy more to expand your set!

One note that is not in the instructions, that might help people who have bought these. The appeal of these is that you can connect any piece to any other piece, without worrying that the polarity will be off and the magnets will repel each other. The way these work is that they do have polarized, cylindrical magnets inside the toy. When you connect 2 together, the cylinder will rotate inside if it is currently repelling, so that they will now attract. But this means it will only work if you connect the pieces one-by-one. If you're having a hard time getting the pieces to stick, take them apart and attach them one-by-one! I was disappointed for a minute until I figured this out :) And I've been working with my small son to figure this out, as well. It doesn't work as well if you try to connect 2 stacks together.
Brain training.

Sturdy enough to be used around my 1 year old without feeling dangerous. 2 year old stacks them. 3.5 year olds line them up, though after a few weeks one of the 3.5 year olds is making simple 3D designs completely unassisted. He's the one that gets frustrated at puzzles, so it's been reassuring to watch him carefully construct things. Definitely developmental progress. For something with a lot of pieces (we have 3 sets of 30 for our crew), it's easy to clean up since they stick to each other. My husband and I like to mess with these a bit too!
