Good idea but needs some work
SRealmuto•August 30, 2017
Easy to install. Difficult to open and close at first. Had to break them in. It doesn't hold the extension up without the optional adapter (not shown in installation video but on the direction sheet). Our gutter extension was too long so too high when lifted to use the adapter to latch it so these did not work for us. We still have to figure out another way to hold up the gutter once we lift it up so it doesn't fall.

I came across this item while looking for a solution to avoid having to mow around the long downspout in our back yard. This was exactly what I had in mind and I couldn't believe the hardware stores in the area do not carry something like this. The price was right and it was prime available - even better! We got it delivered within 2 days and installed it right away. Directions were clear and it was easy to install. Since this worked out so well we're purchasing another set and are going to extend another downspout on the other side of the house. Great product and easy DIY! Highly recommended!
More like half an hour at least

60 second installation...no. More like half an hour at least. But it's not exceptionally hard to do even if you're not particularly handy. The pack comes with a set of two hinges which will do one downspout. Unlike some reviewers mine did come with enough screws but no instructions. I had to look the product up again to find the picture of the instructions and take the laptop outside with me. They're also not particularly tough although I think they will hold up much better than the plastic version. They're pretty easy to bend until you get them screwed on. I gave it a four star for that reason and also the lack of instructions. Otherwise I'm super pleased with it and can't wait to try it out.

It works as advertised. The downpour sprout in front of entry way runs water which turns into ice in winter months. Used the zip hinge to connect the downpour elbow & a 5' gutter to divert water to the grass. I raise the extension when the weather is dried or shoveling snow. The zip hinge is a snap to install. I saw the instruction on you tube and used my husband's tools.
Installed for 2 weeks now and had multiple thawing and refreezing weather at night. No more ice on walkway. The product is pricy. There is another product operates similarly which comes with the gutter extension connecting to the hinge. I discovered that after the fact.

Simple - why didn't I think of this?

Genius. Simple hinge that will do exactly what you want to do; raise and lower the spout. It's made out thicker gauge aluminum than the gutter itself but not much more. That is sufficient for it's job and once mated with the spouts, it's plenty sturdy. They have a video showing how to install and it takes but a few minutes per spout.
One thing to consider is the clearance. When the spout is raised it will stick out from the distance of the depth of the downspout + an inch for the hinge, but the width of the hinged spout + a bit of overhanging material because the spout will not be perfectly vertical when raised. If you need something that is super close to the wall, this will not fit the bill.
