Brilliant!

This is so cool! I love how compact this light becomes, making it really easy to add to a camping pack! The light is super bright as well, even the dim setting is fairly bright. I waited until nighttime to try it, turned off all electronic devices, and all the lights. In terms of brilliance, this inflatable light is quite bright and lit up the entirety of my living room AND my dining room. It is much brighter than your average flashlight, illumination appears to be similar to a lantern, although with a larger range. I plan on purchasing several more to put in my car, and in my camp gear so that I never am without a light, even in an emergency. (It took me a minute to figure out where to pinch in order to inflate, but once I found the spot it inflated in under 2 minutes---when it was time to deflate I simply pinched the same spot and applied very little pressure to the light and it deflated in under 2 minutes. Perfect for when time is of the essence!)
Excellent idea but, sadly, a lemon

In 2 different countries, across 4 different well-educated individuals, we could not get this item to work, at all.

Unfortunately, even though it was outside in bright, clear sunshine for well over the directed 10+ hrs., the red "charging" light never switched to green (or "charged"), as it should have.

Additionally, the nozzle for inflating the device is very difficult to use; a very strong, professional landscaper was the only one who could get it to work by biting on the nozzle, which is an alternate direction in the instructions. Not easy.

Bottom line: we never got this product to work, which is a sad disappointment (loss of time, effort + money).
What a fabulous product and I loved watching the story behind it on shark tank

What a fabulous product and I loved watching the story behind it on shark tank. I bought a few of these last year, have one in my car, one in my apartment and one I take with me on trips. I've used it many, many times, and the product always amazes me! I've taken it camping and just last week took it to Dominican Republic and used it while sitting out on the porch (the light was broken, this worked beautifully). I'm giving this a 4 stars only because as it was recharging last week (while still in DR) the bag somehow developed a hole! I left it on the table, in direct sunlight, and when I came back - seems like it expanded in the heat and created a hole along the seam. I definitely didn't over inflate the bag, i've done it many times. Kind of bummed it malfunctioned in less than a year. Hoping my other ones are more durable than that! Otherwise, great product, just bummed i'm down one.
Loving my LuminAID!

This little invention is AWESOME. No, I haven't yet had a chance to take it out camping and truly use it to its full extent. However, I have run all around my house with it and I love it. I love the idea of it, the usefulness of it, the compactness of it, the design team and rationale behind it, and that these are so simple. So the design team idea behind this was to create cheap and quick light in the wake of national disasters (I believe I read that right in the article). This solar-powered light packs to a shape the size of the panel in the picture (the solar panel and bright white part with the logo). The rest of the inflatable bag folds behind it and is secured with a tab, making it very easy to transport. Once inflated (which you pinch to inflate and when not pinched, it does not lose all its air), it's easy to hang and the space makes a brighter "bulb" to reflect light. I hung them in my dining room to catch light through a sliding door and then slung them over the backs of the chair. Up close, I could read by their light in the dark room, so they are useful for doing tasks close to it. Because they are so bright, they cast dark shadows, so doing tasks farther away was easy, but reading was harder. I also like that you can turn it on and off. I didn't do a stringent test but it seemed these charged well in somewhat ambient light. However, more testing would be required on that.
I would buy these again in a heartbeat, and I plan to use these for camping. I love my headlamps but get paranoid about using battery power. These would make GREAT stocking stuffers for anyone concerned about a bug-out bag or zombie apocalypse-sort of thing.
Low weight, low cost light

This is my second order of the LuminAID. I have only used the original ones twice but they worked really well. They produce a nice soft light. They work great for backpacking when it is pitch black out. Two of them provided decent light to hang around camp. They work well in the tent as well but you have to figure out how to position it to get the best light. The side without the solar panel emmits the most light, so try to focus the in the direction.
They charged up very well too. You have to hit the button until you see the red light to make sure it is charging. I used them for two days and I am not even sure I needed to charge them. The ran for about 4 hours each night with no issues.
I didn't notice a drastic difference between the low and high setting but I noticed the change.
I can't speak to their durability but I think as long as I don't drag them or sit on them they will be fine.

These would be good for camping backpacking, emergency kits, bug out bags, etc.

Low weight, low cost, and no batteries make these a good buy.
