OEM: trash; Cravenspeed: Awesome
Logical LadyApril 17, 2017
To start: I never understood why everyone raved about the cravenspeed dipstick. Then, my OEM dipstick that was nearly impossible to read broke. I thought it was weird that the dipstick was springy but it slides in and out very well and the oil level is easy to read. I don't know why I didn't switch sooner.
A tiny spring
Frostz1April 16, 2017
I have a 2005 mini Cooper S. It fit perfectly. I compared the length to ensure it was the same length and where it indicated top full. Maximum full is at the top dot. Don't go higher, ever, than the top dot. It would be perfect where the tip flares. The rubber gaskets fit snuggly, nicely.
The weird thing about this dipstick is that the material between the red top and the solid metal bottom indicator is a SPRING. It kind of reminds me of a screen door spring. It was a bit scary at first and I had to tell myself "make sure not to kink it or pull it. The spring due to this potential is kinda scary. It just falls into the tube passively and gently and snaps closed. Very interesting. Don't play with it. It is tempting. I, like everyone else would have given it 5 stars but $75 is very opportunistic. When I ordered it I thought that everyone was being a little tight about complaining about the price. After all, it really is the only good replacement option for that crappy OEM dipstick. When I got it, I played with it a bit and finally agreed with everyone else in that it really is a bit pricey for a dipstick (hence the 4star). I am hoping it will be a permanent dipstick and will never have to be considered again.
Works well, happy it exists, still feel the sting in my wallet a little

I never thought I'd spend this much money for an oil dipstick but then I couldn't read the OEM stick and it was delaminating and waiting to break off in the engine.

The design is fine. It's much easier to read, due to the holes at the end of the stick. This is the best part for me. It inserts with no effort, unlike the stock dipstick which had a lot of resistance. It's worth it because there isn't another good option but perhaps the machined and powder coated handle could be injection molded engineering plastic or similar to cut cost a bit but maybe the cost is all R&D. Either way, it's worth it but I'd have preferred to pay $50, more than double that of an OEM replacement vs triple.
Small Box, BIG improvement!

So it showed up, in a little bitty box and I was wondering how the whole thing could be curled in there. I opened it up and the dipstick was perfectly in tact, flexible cable/spring thing, no bends, no issues. It slides into the R53 Mini Cooper S with no issues, like butter! The factory one gets hung up and is a PITA to read. This slides in easily and the holes on the tip are easy to read. Perfect product. I recommend this for all of my loyal followers!
It comes out easily and stress free as well

My factory dipstick on my 06 r53 cooper s has broken of 2 separate times. First time the dealer was able to retrieve the pieces via articulating boroscope. Roughly 80$. Just last Saturday it happened again, unable to boroscope. So 850$ later, a dropped oil pan and fresh oil, the parts were retrieved. When inserting the factory dipstick in this car you can feel it resist. Bound to break off at a rough bump or pothole. But this aftermarket one dropped straight in almost to the hilt with nearly zero force! It comes out easily and stress free as well. Looking forward to being able to check my oil regularly without fear for my finances. So thank you. 75$ is still cheaper than a factory stick and the labor to remove a damaged one!
