Great jacket, the thickness is more than expected. The drawback I have is that it is Not quilted and the lining (cotton batting) will shift if you do not clean according to instructions. Just make sure you are taking all your measurements carefully before ordering. I have a hanten I bought on Okinawa 40 + years ago, and I still wear it! They will last.

Bought this for my husband for christmas because he seemed so jealous of mine. He could've used one size larger (as sizes in Japan are slightly smaller than US sizes), but they don't really come in a larger size. I asked my mother in Japan to look for one also, but she couldn't find any. My husband has long arms, big upper body, (big and tall, basically) and this still fit him ok, just slightly tight in the shoulders and a bit short. But he loves it and wears it around the house always. Great quality! and surprisingly fast shipping!

This type of clothing has pretty wide sleeves and shoulders, so it may feel like it's too loose on you. In general, the best way to see if it's the right size for you (as with many traditional Japanese jackets) is to have the end of the sleeves reach your a couple inches before your wrists. Or go one size bigger if you're not trying to win any fashion contents--it's supposed to cover you up and keep you warm anyway, right?
