Reliable Drives for my NAS
Amazon Customer•May 27, 2016
Purchased eight WD SE 4TB Drives one year ago with a Synology DiskStation 8-Bay Network Attached Storage (DS1813+). Use as a media server, for music, photos, and HD movies. Server has preformed flawlessly for the past year. Very pleased with the overall performance. I Have older servers for backups etc, that are not as reliable (drive failures) but never more than one at any given time. No failures with these drives.
Bought dozens of these for a bunch of my dell servers, few shown remapped sectors, WD replaced them without questions by mail.

Bought dozens of these for a bunch of my dell servers, few shown remapped sectors, very few showed SMART remaps in smartctl. WD replaced them under warranty not asking a question. Opened RMA, $6 to ship to CA, they ship newer one back for free.
2 drives, 0 problems so far

I haven't had any problems with these Se drives after 6 months. Generally with hard drives, I'd expect one to fail within the first month, or fail after 5+ years. I'm also not a gambler with data, so I am running a pair of these 4TB drives in RAID 1, just in case. These drives don't see a ton of use in my application of them. I originally ordered them with the intended use of using them in a high traffic server, but I had a more urgent need in a NAS device so these ended up peddling large files. It is the tech equivalent of driving Miss Daisy in a muscle car. WD Red would be more appropriate, but I'm not changing it now. Their power consumption is completely reasonable- 2 drives in a 2-bay NAS is less than 25 watts, and their read/write rate is exactly as expected.
Perfect for Synology 12 bay NAS
TommyBoyChicago•April 9, 2015
Have purchased about 12 of these now and am not disappointed. They are in a Synology NAS that is mission critical to my business so I don't like to cheap out on hard drives. Nice drives for a not too terrible price.
