Well made and works great
Tim A. Hawkins•March 22, 2018
This is a great addition to the BioLite 2 stove. It is a little bulky for back packing but doable. Has to folding legs to the front and the base sets on top of the stove with a hinged cover to feed fuel. It works great, well built and will handle 2 12 oz. steaks with no problem. When the stove comes up to temp. , no more than 5 minutes (depending on ambient temp.) it will cook the steaks in no more time than a stationary grill- I really like mine.
Works great

This has been left in the snow and rain a few times and has some little surface discoloration but works great still. Was impressed. You can cook to normal size burgers and and a hotdog on it. Tho not the smallest its is able to fit into a day pack (assault pack ). Weight isnt bad vs its use.
Love this thing!

One word, awesome! The grill attachment I feel is very well made. The legs fold out and lock into place and the grill attachment just sits on top of your campstove. It does not lock into your campstove so make sure the ground surface is somewhat level. The access port allows you to easily add more wood while cooking. It comes with a plastic one piece cover that snugly covers the top cooking surface and bottom hole that attaches to the campstove. I read a review from another customer that posted a picture and voiced a concern about the cover showing signs of stress. Mine also shows this stress so I contacted biolite customer service. I was informed that this is normal and very rarely breaks. Even if mine does break I plan on drilling a hole in each piece and then inserting 550 cord through the holes and securing with a knot. Anyway, the cover is good if you have cooked something messy like BBQ or beacon. That way when you put it back in your pack it will not make a mess. I would still put it in a ziplock bag or something just in case, provided you can find one big enough. The cover has raised sides and you could use it as a plate if you wanted. You can fit three hamburgers or two small steaks on the cooking surface at one time. This is more for cooking for one person but you could get away with two. As with any grill I have ever owned there will be hot and cold spots. Learn were yours are and cook your food accordingly. I have cooked Italian Sausages that were frozen in an hour and a steak that was frozen to medium rare in 40 minutes. You will need more wood then you think to keep this thing going and cooking your food so make sure you have more then enough before you start. Since it uses wood for cooking the food will take on that flavor very easily. I have not gone out and tried the different types of wood in my area yet and have just used flavored wood chips. One things to note when adding wood. If you add just enough wood to keep the flame and heat going there will be less smoke, the more smoke, the more flavor your food will have of that type of wood. If you are thinking of putting it in your pack it does take up quite a bit of space. I see no reason why someone could not take this on a day hike. But, if you are like me and do not mind carrying half your body weight or more, provided your backpack has the space, several days should not be a problem if you can bring all the gear you will need. I have cooked on this several times and found it very easy to clean. Minus the cover, the grill comes apart in three pieces with no nooks or crannies to speak of. Overall, I am very happy with this product and all the great work Biolite is doing around the world!!!
This grill attachment is a wonderful addition to the campstove. Your imagination is the only limit as to what you can cook on it. The paragraphs that follow are just a few things I have cooked with it.
I just got this delivered today and had to try it out. I cooked Italian sausages on it as you can see from the picture and they came out perfect. As with cooking over any fire it requires constant monitoring. I was either adding wood, turning down the fan if it got too hot or, turning and moving the sausages around the grill. I cooked the sausages parallel to the top grate so they would not roll around on the grill. This is not something you can really walk away from for more then a few minutes. It does take up a lot of space if you put it in a backpack. I would not take it on a hike for more then a night or two but if you pack light it may work for you. I'm going to try and cook some trout on it when I get the chance. I really love this and will try to add updates when I can. I used mesquite wood chips to cook with and the taste was awesome! I was thinking I wish it came with a lid to trap the heat and smoke. That would have maybe decreased the cook time and added more flavor from the mesquite chips. Overall, I am very happy with this product.
Update: I forgot to mention that when the coals got low but where still burning, I would fill it up with more wood chips and turn the fan to high. This would put out the flames but start smoking really good. Once it started to flame I would turn the fan down to low. I did this several times until the sausages were done. I think that is what gave them such a great flavor from the mesquite wood chips.
Second update: I cooked a steak on it using the mesquite wood chips and same process as above. I timed it from the time I put the steak on and cooked it until medium rare. It was frozen and took 40 minutes to cook during which time I added chips five times. The outside temperature was 34 and the wind was 2 to 3 mph with gusts up to 7. I have a weather station just in case you were wondering. The first picture is one with it smoking and the second when it was done. OH...MY...GOSH...Best steak ever!!! Cooking with wood is the way to go because your food really takes on the flavor of the wood. I bought a small $6 bag of wood chips and used half of it cooking the steak. I started thinking about what I said earlier about wishing it had a lid. I actually prefer it without one because you can see the flames if they get too high so you can turn the fan down or flip the steak. After cooking on this two times I used the entire $6 bag of wood chips. I did not use any other wood then the mesquite chips. I could have used what ever wood was on the ground but I was afraid it would change the flavor. As I said earlier, this system requires almost constant monitoring so make sure you have enough wood and everything you need before starting to cook. It is a lot of work but the end result is worth it. I am thinking of buying a huge pellet grill because of this little thing.
Update #3. After seeing how much smoke I could make with the grill attachment I decided to do something different. I remembered a friend of mine smoked cheddar cheese and mozzarella. Since putting the cheese directly on the grill would melt it I used my smoker that has two doors top and bottom. The campstove and grill attachment went on bottom and I kept the bottom door open. This allowed me to do a cold smoke as to not melt the cheese. The temperature gauge on the top door stayed below 100 degrees the whole time. I was thinking I could easily make a cold smoker out of plywood in the future. I used hickory wood chips this time. I also would use the same process as above to create the smoke and did this 5 times, only this time I would open the top door on my smoker when it started to flame as to not melt the cheese. Once it burned down enough but still had coals, I would add more wood chips. They came out perfect and had a great Smokey flavor to them. I took a picture so you can see the end product. They kind of look like hot dogs when done but they are not.
# 4 and last update. I just cooked a salmon steak wrapped in tin foil with butter, olive oil, garlic powder, potatoes, green beans, broccoli and, cauliflower. As you can see it covers a lot of the grill. I used wood pellets this time and they do seem to put out more heat. I added pellets three times in 40 minutes of cooking. I was worried the potatoes would not be done but they were. The other veggies ended up being a little mushy. The salmon turned out very well and only the skin chard and was crispy. Overall, it tasted very good.

I love my Biolite camp stove and the grill is nice ...
Nicole•October 15, 2017
I love my Biolite camp stove and the grill is nice to have, but it's a bit heavy which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. Because of the weight, it's not really usable for backpacking, but for closer campsites it would work especially if you have a couple people to spread out the weight.
I've made some of my best BBQ steak ever on this little grill
Evileyes•October 29, 2016
Just wanted to add to what other people are saying about the grill. I just want to say, I've made some of my best BBQ steak ever on this little grill, the food taste amazing with hickory wood. Last night, I made a few steaks, and the wife wouldn't stop eating my steak, and she's not that much of a meat lover. This here is a "must have" if you own the Biolite stove.
Cooks meats very well, love this thing! and also, when its time to clean it, you will love it even more because its not that big!
I love Biolite products, I'm always going to get their gear!
