I am so pleased with my new Leonard soil knife, and wish I had bought one weeks ago. My flower beds are criss-crossed with a web of old roots and half-inch diameter taproots, which makes planting new flowers challenging. I am also not very good a gauging how deep/wide the hole should be. The Leonard knife has made planting and transplanting soooooo much easier. The serrated is sharp enough to chop through roots, whew. It is also easier to deepen the hole with the pointed tip or widen the hole with the smooth side, than it is to use a digging shovel ... especially when working between plants, when you don't want to trample established plants. I do still need to have a small spade because the spade portion of this knife is rather narrow, and cannot scoop much dirt.

I do recommend getting the sheath and wearing gloves. This sucker is sharp enough to give you a nasty slash. Happy gardening!

Very good quality and makes cutting throughout soil and roots very easy. It is quite sharp so use it with care.

All I can say is that this thing is seriously awesome!! I have had many "weed removal", soil break-up, plant planting tools over the past 30 years and this is the easiest and fastest one I have ever owned.
