Onyx-tm XM Satellite Receiver is much better than my old Delphi-tm XM receiver—except for one thing
Thomas Richardson✓ Verified Purchase•September 10, 2023
AMAZON'S LISTING IS MISLEADING: THIS RECEIVER RECEIVES XM ONLY, NOT SIRIUS!
Nine years ago, I bought a Delphi-brand XM satellite receiver and docker (a.k.a. boombox). Then some months ago, my Delphi rig was not pulling in certain stations and I replaced it with this new Onyx-brand XM receiver and an SXSD2 docker. My old Delphi receiver would actually get hot if you had it running for a while; this new setup does not. I give it major points for that. This Onyx satellite receiver is easier to navigate channels with; I give it big points for that.
Why I'm marking this Onyx receiver down from five-stars: My old Delphi system had a Rewind feature, good for ten minutes, where you could go back and listen to previous songs, and see on the screen the title/artist for those songs. This was wonderful when I had my boombox playing in my house and I heard a song that I liked but I was in the bathroom at the time. No problem"”when I got out of the bathroom, I could rewind my Delphi boombox to when it was playing the song I liked, I could write down the title and artist, then I could fast-forward the music-play back to present. But on my Onyx receiver, I can't do that"”the only way I can write down the title/artist of a song is while the song is playing; and if I'm in the bathroom at the time, too bad for me.

Great radio for home use!

This radio does exactly what its described to do and it works well. I get good signal from the antenna despite it being inside a room with other electronics around it. Although with that being said, I recommend putting it higher up from the floor and near a window in order to achieve the best signal strength.
If you enjoy SiriusXM in your car, then buy the home kit so you can listen to it plugged into your stereo. That is what I am doing and I am very content with it.

Inexpensive Portable-Capable SiriusXM

For an inexpensive unit, it works well.
It took a lot of research and trial and error to get it to work with USB power, but you can do it. So, it is a cheap way to go for a portable unit. You have to use the CableDeconn USB A to DC 3.5 mm/1.35 mm 5 Volt DC cable to make it USB portable.
The antenna that was provided is not very good. I bought another antenna to improve its portability while leaving the rather long cord coiled up. The provided antenna needs to be fully extended to work reliably.

i've been a sirius subscriber since howard stern moved to satellite, when my original radio died a couple years ago, i tried using the online service, which frankly sucked, it constantly dropped out - maybe it's my internet connection, i have no idea....anyway, i finally ordered this radio - which itself works great, easy setup, picks up a signal immediately and has yet to drop the signal - which my old radio (the Sportster) used to do a couple times a day. the remote is terrible, i had to read the directions to figure out how to change the channel - you'd think you hit the station # and hit an 'Enter' button, but there is no enter button, you have to hit a + button and the channel, or visa versa, i can't remember as i rarely change channels, so maybe it's more of a labeling issue, but still annoying.
the part that bothers me is, i assumed this was a sirius radio as it is called a sirius-xm radio, it doesn't say it is an XM radio or sirius radio, which i found out turns out to be kind of a big deal with regards to subscriptions, since i only listen to Howard, normally i could get the basic sirius select package for $15/month if i had a 'sirius' radio, but since i apparently have an 'xm' radio, i have to get the xm all access package for $19 month to get howard - now $4/month doesn't sound like much, but over 3 years or so it's almost $200, so in the end, the radio's should be advertised as either xm or sirius radios, not a sirius-xm radio, because even though the two companies have merged, they're still separate, which boggles my mind......and trying to deal with their customer service, forget about it.....

I have a lifetime subscription to Sirius (which they no longer offer). My old Starmate radio finally bit the dust and I bought this one to replace it. The radio I bought came with the home docking kit. Have to turn the volume way up on my home stereo system though, I think the volume set level in the sirius radio is set too low, thus the 4 star rating instead of 5. Just note also that if you have a lifetime subscription and change radios Sirius does charge a $75 fee to switch the service to your new radio. Overall I'm very satisified with this radio.
