The installation was relatively easy (I got side-tracked replacing my disposal
Jeff H.•August 15, 2017
I wish I had installed one of these decades ago! On-demand hot (filtered) water and on-demand filtered water. The installation was relatively easy (I got side-tracked replacing my disposal, faucet, sprayer, air gap, waste pipe, and all my hoses/pipes/lines). The hardest part is figuring out where to locate this unit under the sink (my cabinet is rather cramped). I decided to go to a plumbing supply store to procure a tiny shut-off valve and tiny little pipes/fittings so I could isolate the system, but you don't have to get that crazy. The filters are extremely easy to change. The on-demand hot water has changed my life: tea, coffee, pasta, soup, everything you need hot water for is just easy now. I can definitely taste the difference in the water too: water from this InSinkErator unit just tastes like pure water, and not chemicals, minerals, or organic matter.

A few little tips...

If this tank is a replacement, the installation notes say: "Snap-connect fitting not included. Required when replacing tank manufactured prior to January 2006. Call the AnswerLine to order: 1-800-558-5700". The AnswerLine told me to order Part # 43103C from Carroll Parts, phone 1-800-654-3545. It cost $21.00 -- $9 for the fitting and $12 to ship it. I include the details so you can short-circuit the process and order the fitting when you order the tank. You may also need to get (separately) a bit of 7/8" OD silicone flexible tubing that is rated for high temperatures. One foot is plenty, but I had to order it ... it wasn't available locally in my area.
The first tank I got leaked. All the fittings were dry, but after about 4 hours, the bottom of the tank was wet. It is manufactured in two halves that are joined together...and the joint leaked at the bottom. The replacement works fine, and Amazon was easy to deal with. But check the tank a bit after it goes in just to be sure it's not leaking. It's a very slow leak and you might not notice it unless you feel the tank bottom.
The exact match for the one I was replacing was almost $600, so I still consider this a good buy. But in all, I'm shelling out for 3 visits from the plumber to get 'er done. One to determine I needed the fitting and hose, one to put in the first tank that leaked, and one to put in the second tank.

Works Pretty Good; but Expensive

I have had this installed a while and had time for the fun novelty of it to wear off a bit and can give you more of an honest take on it.
It is great to have instant hot filtered water; or cold. I use it mostly for hot; as I have filtered water in the door of my fridge.
It basically is a heater that "boils" the water for use. You can hear it boiling. If you use large coffee mugs. The second cup is not as hot as the the first. And the 3rd cup is just a bit warmer than out of the faucet.
But, the filter replacement on these are very expensive (around $70) and last only about 6 months. And the gadget itself it a bit pricey and the faucets are expensive as well; for what this does.
So, convenient; fun; somewhat functional; expensive.
