As good as I have ever used.
tpmazz•February 8, 2018
As good or better than any canned tomato I have ever used, and being Italian, over the years that includes many brands. These are small plum tomatoes with no unwanted skin pieces, very small seeds and no dreaded yellow unripe shoulders. They have a slightly sweet flavor that makes a delightful gravy (sauce for you non Italians). I offer you my unqualified highest recommendation for this product.
Is this how they get rid of their dented cans?

It almost seems they find every can with huge dents and puts my order together. Its not very visible from the outside but when I opened the case there is barely a can that doesn't look like it fell from a 3 story building.
Tough to review

It is difficult to review these tomatoes. I've tried numerous brands and these are different. They are very well peeled and free of bug damage. The sauce it is packed in isn't watery and it is rich. Here's where these are odd;.the flesh and seeds are so much more dense than other brands. Actual DOP tomatoes are so tender that you don't have to remove the seeds or core, just hand crush and gently bring to a simmer. These there are SO many more seeds and they are large and dense that they need to be removed. The core is dense and fibrous which requires removal. It creates a lot of waste. The taste is excellent but really needs to be blended because hand crushing leaves large, dense chunks. Still... very tasty.
The reviews were true - these are great canned tomatoes

These tomatoes make any recipe better. I passed them out to my friends to try in their cooking and compare to what they had been using. Unanimously they preferred these Sclafani tomatoes.
Are they as good as fresh? C'mon we live in California, nothing beats our fresh produce, but hey, the tomato season is only for a few months a year. These are our go-to tomatoes for cooking the rest of the time.
Shipping is hit and miss though. My previous order showed up with more than half the cans moderately to severely dented. The most recent order miraculously arrived without a single dented can. Good luck!
