Amazon Warehouse Deals: Speaker was loose, but sound quality is superb

I purchased this "Like new" from Amazon Warehouse deals. The Speaker was loose and not seated correctly. I had to open the speaker up and fiddle with is to get it in place, now if I move the speaker it will likely pop out of place again. I will live with it to not have to deal with the hassle of a return, but definitely expected the quality control of $200 speakers to be a little more robust. Didn't seem to effect the sound quality as it is great and I would have given 5 stars.

At $250 these seem pricey, but I can guarantee that they are worth every penny! Just about anything you buy, there will always be a few people out there to tear the item apart. Very few times are they correct. Give these a shot and ignore the negative nancies out there!! The mid and high ranges are OUTSTANDING! And if your like me and in a small area (apartment), the base is WAY more than enough without a subwoofer. If the base isn't what you are looking for, then just about any subwoofer out there will complement these. Personally I think the base on these is twice as good as the old $60 set I had with a sub. The clarity of these is just simply AMAZING. If you don't think you can afford them, keep saving until you can because it'll be more than worth it!

These little speakers look and sound great. They are a nice small size that makes them great for computer speakers. But from the beginning I have had scratchy intermittent sound from the left speaker. Tapping it sometimes made it work. After checking connections and cables I decided to open it up and see if I could find a connection to fix.
The main board looked cheaply made. It had a dusty, sticky feeling and look. Many of the solder joints were poorly done. Many had a white, crystalline look. I re-soldered every major connection. There were two pins on the main IC amplifier chip that didn't appear to have been soldered.
These speakers have only been in a protected, dry, clean climate controlled environment.
Now it seems to work, but you shouldn't have resort to this.

Was debating for a while between these and the A5 series. After reading that Audioengine recommends the A5s be at least 6 ft apart, I realized they'd probably be a bit much for my small apartment. I have these hooked up to a Pro Ject DC carbon and they're absolutely perfect. Perfect for listening in my room, and believe me, they crank. Easily loud enough to be LOUD in my small 600 sq ft apartment. I was skeptical given their size but I'm totally happy with my purchase, and I'm glad I didn't go the A5 route because for my needs it would've been overkill, and I wouldn't even be able to really enjoy them. Can't stress enough that they really do crank, and sound good the whole time. After reading other reviews I thought I'd likely end up buying a sub but honestly they have more than enough bass for my ears.

I am very impressed by this set of speakers. I read a good number of reviews and investigated several options for upgrading my computer audio system. In the end I decided on the A2+'s, and I could not be happier. I added a subwoofer to fill out the low frequencies (an 8" Yamaha powered unit). They do take up a pretty significant amount of desk real estate, which is worth it for me.
Like other reviewers, I would highly recommend adding a separate powered subwoofer to this speaker system. They do a good job as full range speakers, but really do not provide enough low end on their own to really sound well rounded. Adding a subwoofer really brings out all of the strengths of these speakers (clarity, clean sound, nice range). I would highly recommend these to anyone in this price range looking to upgrade their computer system.
