A Must Have for Transcription.
StephM•April 24, 2018
I've been transcribing for about 2 years with the free version of Express Scribe and no foot pedal. The free version is fine except I'd occasionally get files that it wouldn't play due to the format. This was a better deal on Amazon than Express Scribe, so I figured I'd do it. I couldn't be happier! The package came with the foot pedal, a CD of the pro version, and a code to download it. After I ordered it I realized I don't have a CD slot, so I emailed AltoEdge and they promptly replied and said there would be the code to download it. It was a little confusing to download it because I already had the free software, but I figured it out. The foot pedal just gets plugged in and it does what it needs to do and works automatically. I've cut SO much time off my transcription work with the pedal. My only regret is that I didn't get it sooner!
Does the job.

I don't have much experience transcribing, so I don't have much to compare this too. However, I needed to transcribe a number of interviews for my dissertation, so I needed something the help. This pedal works really well in conjunction with the software. The software is a little odd to install and gives the impression of being one small step above malware, but it is not bad in the end and it works like a charm. I installed it on my two laptops and have been able to use the pedal easily with both of them. When you push the pedal, the recording goes back slightly so you can hear a word or two of what came before. For my typing speed and ability, that's just right. I was able to transcribe about 15 minutes of interview in one hour. I'm sure more accomplished typists could do much better. In any case, if you have to transcribe, this appears to be a very solid pedal/software package and it's worth the price if you have any amount of transcribing to do or if you have a high-impact project that has to get done.
VERY easy to ramp up

Works perfectly for my needs. VERY easy to ramp up, a no-brainer.
Saves time. Intuitive.

Saves time. I chose the bundle to avoid compatibility issues and haven't looked back. Picked up the rhythm right away. I thought this would make my transcriptions faster, and it did, but not as much as I had hoped. Still, I would buy it again. It was not plug and play, but if you work with computers at all, it was not frustrating to set up; it did require my full attention to set up, however.
Works great on a MacBook Pro

I had been using the free version of Express Scribe to transcribe some old lectures. I liked it well enough, and the keyboard shortcuts made it faster than stopping and starting playback on an mp3 player app. It was still tedious but I didn't want to spend money on a pedal if I didn't have to. Doing several hour-long lectures the hard way changed me mind. I saw the wisdom in spending the money on the pedal and Express Scribe Pro software. What a difference. I have probably increased my speed by 4 or 5 times. Maybe more. My hands stay on the keyboard and I control the playback easily with my foot. I'm very pleased with it so far. I'm using a MacBook Pro running El Capitan and everything is working great.
