It works exactly as described. And as others have explained, it picks up a lot of noise from fluorescent ballasts. Just turn off the lights and use a flashlight. Great tool for gas leak detection. I used compresses air under low pressure (20 psi) because it was marine engine cooling circuits. I found and fixed 3 leaks. Problem solved.
The headphone cord was a bit long and kept catching on things but I'm just getting used to it and will work on my technique.
