I purchased the Powerblanket to keep snow and ice from accumulating in front of my garage doors and barn doors. Both the garage and barn doors are under eaves, and in winter snow slides off the standing seam metal roof and accumulates. If not immediately cleared, it compacts into a ridge of solid ice. In years past, I could not open my sliding barn doors after the first big snowfall until late April. I now place the Powerblanket heated-side-up in front of the doors whenever I will be away on vacation in winter, and when I return, days or weeks later, the blanket is always clear of snow and ice, even when there had been significant snowfall. It works fairly well heat-side-down on existing accumulations of snow and ice. Because the problem areas are peaked ridges of hard packed snow or ice, the blanket does not work as well as it would if the area to be thawed were level. Nevertheless, it is better than dumping 200 lbs of ice melter on it and hacking at it with an adze, as I used to have to do.

I purchased this to melt ice on my driveway and didn't work as I hoped.

Product did not work as advertised. It only got lukewarm, even after hours. It failed to thaw the ground with mild daytime temperatures. I heard great things about these blankets. Unfortunately, ours did not deliver.
