Best house for cats!

I bought this so my elderly cats can "go outside" and enjoy the breezes, given that coyotes are a threat in our neighborhood. Overall, it was very easy to put together, and it is VERY well made. Modifying it wasn't too bad either. First, I used a staple gun and stapled screening (that's usually used for window screens) around the open corner and in the window area. Then I used my dremel tool to make an opening in the back. Next, I installed a cat flap in one of my window screens. I had to find something to raise the house so it sits in front of one of the windows of our human house -- that turned out to be the bottom two shelves of a heavy duty plastic shelving unit. The biggest challenge was getting the cat house as close to the human house window because the human house's window has a 3" ledge. But once the cat house was in position, it works like a charm -- my cats can now "go outside" (by going through the cat flap into the cat house) when I open that window. Because the top of the cat house opens easily, it's very easy to clean too.

Easy to put together. Wood is very thin. Hinges on roof are very weak. Might be okay for a very sheltered "outside" area, but not appropriate to protect your dog from the elements. Also, it should come with anchors. It's so light (made that cheaply) it blows over in the slightest breeze.

Very impressed with the weight and quality of this house. Absolutely no problem putting it together. Directions were a little sketchy on the roof assemble, but I muddled thru. (Note:The little legs in the middle of the floor go in a specific direction or the middle section won't fit.) My 13 month German Sheperd puppy destroys indestructible rubber cattle feed buckets. I think the house will withstand. I wanted to add a heat mat and ordered the K&H Manufacturing Lectro-Kennel Heated Pad with FREE Cover Large 22.5" x 28.5" but knew it would be destroyed. Here's my solution. I used some of the styrofoam from the house packaging and padded the floor the pad didn't cover, then covered the whole floor with Canvas Fabric Waterproof Outdoor 60" wide 600 Denier 15 Colors sold by the yard (1 YARD, Navy Blue). Added 1 x 2 around the edge. She may be able to defeat me, but here's hoping.

This was easy to assemble. It seemed a very good price as it is supposed to be from cedar. The roof is asphalt, and well done. Parts of the floor boards had a weird silver looking glowing fiber dust on them. I washed that off, and after washing, it dries out fast. The inside is also dyed teal/green with supposedly a nontoxic material, and I was expecting it not to be so. This was supposedly made n China. Anyway, I covered the asphalt roof with a thick white vinyl I all ready had so that my dog could sit on top of that instead of asphalt, and it seems cushioned due to the asphalt underneath. The dog house seems quite sturdy, but the roof part seems like a board with asphalt on it, and so I am unsure how sturdy it is for my 60 lb Shar Pei/Chow mix to lie on top of it--it seems all right, but it could have been a thicker roof board used. It is possible my dog will not want to lie on top of it, but supposedly dogs do that, It may be okay as is. This also has the rain preventive clear vinyl flap door with it. It does not look cheap. My dog has not used it yet. It is too early in the season, and it usually takes him a few days to try out a new pad. I did put a doggy bed inside that I purchased at a local chain store.
