THIS STUFF IS AMAZING! My daughter and I are mosquito magnets, she is allergic and ends up with these giant welts. Softball season is usually a nightmare. She hates aerosol sprays because they get in your mouth and basically fog you out and leave your skin wet and sticky and then you get it in your eyes. She is 6 and just hates having to do bug spray and it is a nightmare. BUT this isnt aerosol and it goes on kind of like a light dry oil. It coats the skin and has a flowery plant smell that isnt crazy off putting...but even better IT WORKS! Like NOOOOO bites...at all. I just spray down her arms and legs and then rub some on her neck and lightly mist her clothes. It last a long time and I have no complaints. I am really happy with this purchase.
It works for me and I'm a mosquito magnet.

I'm the kind of person who gets a black cloud of mosquitoes following him on evening walks. I have had people point it out to me, I'm not exaggerating. That said, I try to limit my time outdoors during the horrible time others enjoy, known as summer. This repellent has allowed me to take a couple walks in the evening without any bites. I'd usually have three of four welts on me when I'm out for any period of time around dusk, even when dressed in long pants and sleeves, and with a hat.
IT WORKS!!!

Not sure what kind of wizardry is used to ward off bugs, because this stuff is magic. I'm an avid outdoorsy person and trail run and camp and rock climb. This is my go to spray. I spent 6 hours running in hot bug infested woods and I seriously didn't get a single bite. Also, we were climbing with some friends in a mosquito cloud and we only had a product with DEET in it. Didn't work at all. I went home and got this spray and didn't get bothered once! Buy this bug spray and never look back. Plus, it doesn't ruin camping gear or fishing gear or sunglasses like DEET-laden sprays do! And it's natural. It's got to be made by elves or fairies or something.
Survived the Thai jungle

I just bought a second bottle, after the first got us through a few days in northern Thailand. One full day (we re-applied midday) was spent hiking in the jungle with rescued elephants. The poor things were constantly hounded by horseflies, but we were totally fine.

Two adults liberally applying for four uses went through about half of the 3.4 ounces. We generally travel without checking bags, so this size is perfect for TSA's 3-1-1.

Don't be fooled by the Natrapel name"”Picaridin is not a "natural" substance. Both it and DEET are chemicals with indeterminate long-term health and environmental effects. However, as a physician, I decided to switch from DEET when I learned that some DEET is cleared renally. That is, it's absorbed through skin and shows up in your urine. Although this hasn't been shown to be problematic for health, it just doesn't seem right. Although DEET has gotten me through many a fishing or camping trip, my other concern is that it eats away gear. If it can erode my GPS screen and sunglasses, it can't be good on its way out of my body.

One thing to watch out for"”Natrapel can be slippery. The tile floor of our hotel room entryway got pretty slick after we sprayed our legs there.
Picaridin works great for ticks, do not like Natrapel's sprayer

I work outside most of the summer in an area with Lyme disease, so am concerned primarily with repelling ticks - repelling mosquitoes is a secondary benefit. I treat my shoes and clothes with a permethrin spray (once a week) and use an insect repellent spray each morning. I like picaridin based insect repellants rather than DEET repellants, since picaridin is less greasy and seems to work better. Plus, I find that I do not need to reapply my sunscreen as frequently during the day.

One negative about Natrapel is the sprayer. I've purchased one or two cans of Natrapel where it doesn't spray as an even mist, rather it is a heavier mist with large drops, so that the spray really isn't that effective. I think this is due to the locking mechanism of the sprayer not unlocking fully. I've now started purchasing a different product from Amazon which has the same concentration of picaridin at the same price, with a better sprayer. Also, the 6 oz. Natrapel spray is not always available from Amazon during the summer months (only third party sellers) while the other product seems to be more consistently in stock by Amazon.
