A very useful piece of tooling appropriate for the size of my vertical milling machine
David R. Voth✓ Verified Purchase•April 1, 2023
I am happy with this purchase, and will certainly look to this vendor for future tooling needs. As shown in the illustration it comes with four spacers. As one might expect they have standard fractional inch thicknesses - .500", .250", and .125" (x2). This arbor should accommodate a wide variety of side-cutting mills, slitting saws, etc. It fills a gap I have long had in my tooling collection and significantly expands the types of cutters that I can use.
IMO this is a great arbor for the price. You can pay a WHOLE lot more for one that is prettier but probably not much better functionally. This arbor is generally as shown and described:
- The finish on the arbor body, nut, and spacers is uniform fine matte (bead blasted?) with turning marks slightly visible, much as illustrated.
- The shank on mine is shiny overall with a little discoloration, slightly frosted near the arbor body. There is no logo on the shank.
- Arbor body has "3/4 x 1 HSS" and the F&D logo laser-engraved on the side.
- The less critical flat surfaces have Blanchard-type grinding marks visible. Flats on the spacers appear to be hand-honed to thickness within .001".
- All dimensions seem to be correct enough for anything I am likely to do.
- The male threads are a little ragged at the inner end, and there were a few small loose chips. This will not affect function.
- The parts arrived with no trace of rust, a little oil on inner surfaces.
The 3/4" straight shank is the largest diameter that my old Millrite MV will accept using standard collets. I look forward to giving this arbor a real test for rigidity, concentricity, etc. when the need arises.
It's great to be able to get a useful piece of tooling that was made in the USA for the price I paid.
