2nd time's the charm

Firs splitter arrived damaged. It was packaged well enough but, had no pallet beneath the steel frame it was shipped in. Appears someone dropped it from a high place (forklift?) on it's top corner and smashed the steel guard over the hydraulic control valve down onto the mechanism. Also, the contents of the box were strewn all over inside the box. Perhaps this isn't the first time it had been shipped?

The replacement unit arrived intact via Pilot (another carrier delivered the first / damaged unit). We checked the splitter/packaging - all was good. Assembled it two days later and split a few rounds in our garage out of the weather. Worked perfectly. We're going to love having this around for a VERY long time :-)
Such a poor quality of metal and 3rd world design

Best Electric Log Splitter

I received my Boss 10 ton a couple weeks ago and used it for the first time recently. Needless to say I am very impressed. I did do ALOT of research and appreciate all the previous reviews as they were very accurate. The unit comes shipped on a pallet and packaged decently. The cardboard on one end was crushed but zero inside damage. I would definitely recommend the additional lift gate service as I'm not sure how one would unload this as it is very heavy. (Unsure why lift gate service is extra, it's required! There is no way UPS could deliver this)The unit requires a 20amp outlet and heavy duty power cord. I had an outlet installed which cost another $125 but I felt that electric was less maintenance and less mess. Also there aren't many new gas log splitters in the $1,000 price range. As I said before the unit is heavy and heavy duty although I wish it was made in USA. I was impressed with the sturdiness of all the components. I would recommend having at least 2 strong adults on hand to put the legs on. My one wish would be for a wider stance on the wheels and possibly bigger pneumatic tires. Be sure to have a couple quarts of the AW32 hydraulic fluid as the unit is shipped with no where near the correct level (confusing because the manual says the level has been set by the manufacturer) Having experience with hydraulics I cycled the splitter a few times WITHOUT any wood with the cap off to expel any air in the hoses and also to meet the correct oil level. The electric motor will let you know when you've gone too far one way (screams a bit but not overly alarming) The dual action feature is awesome and will no doubt save you time. Easy one hand operation and the wood trays on either side are a huge help too. It was easy on my lower back as the unit sits just over waist high for me (I'm 6') I didn't split anything huge but the unit didn't blink at anything I threw at it so I would feel comfortable in going up to the 12" limit. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and highly recommend it. PS. This splitter is available elsewhere for almost $300 less.
Boss Industrial ED10T20 Electric Log splitter. Cuts through uncured hardwood like butter!

This is an initial review. I'll modify it later if necessary. I received the ED10T20 today. It came on it's own wooden pallet, in a heavy cardboard box. Removing it from the box was fairly easy with the assist of a motorcycle jack. I lifted it on the jack and assembled the two rear legs, wheels, and then the front leg. After finishing up with the two "catch racks" I removed the cover on the hydraulic reservoir. I put the diptstick into the opening and found that the unit had been shipped full of fluid. Instructions were fairly easy to follow for assembly (if you're used to getting through all the bulls*** legal-speak). I moved the 215 lb unit out of the garage and onto the covered patio where I keep the wood for my wood-fired pizza oven. Unfortunately, the person who sold me the peach wood was dishonest and had delivered a chord of wet, uncured peach wood. I filled the wheel-barrow with the huge chunks of wood and proceeded to split. I was amazed at how easily this unit sliced through unseasoned hardwood. It doesn't bog down slow down at all. Just proceeds through the wood until it gets to the end of travel.
My initial impression is that this is a very sturdy made unit that will split anything you can fit in it's path. Great unit.
One Boss I really like!

I researched a ton of log splitters before deciding on the Boss. Didn't want to deal with maintaining another gas engine with all the issues with the fuel stabilizers, and storage space. However, I wanted a splitter that could get through some larger logs so I wouldn't have to rent a larger gas powered down the road too much. The Boss was perfect. It fell right in the sweet spot all by itself. Throw in the fact I can do most of my splitting standing as opposed to bending over and I am thrilled with this purchase. He's a little heavy to move around for one person, but two people can manage easily. Love having a heater in the garage, a load of logs and this splitter going while it's snowy and cold outside. Will see how it holds up, but so far so good. Have to keep an eye on the buildup of wood debris at the end where the lever is but quick flick with a long screwdriver every so often and not an issue.
