The best beans for authentic red beans and rice! My husband and I first made the dish at a cooking class when we took a trip to New Orleans. We have tried just about every other brand we could find since then, but nothing gave our dish the same creamy texture as when we first made it. The instructed had told us to buy Camellia beans, but we resisted because they are not readily available near us and they are a little pricier. Eventually we relented and ordered the Camellia beans. The difference is astounding. Definitely worth it.

I've cooked Camellia Red Beans all my life and these beans are not Camellia's. Never had to cook longer than 4 hours to get a creamy pot of beans. After 9 hours of cooking they are still crunchy. Never will I buy these again from Amazon. Ill have friends ship them to me as they are not sold in this area. Sad day. Made Chili with tenderloin tips and while it tasted good the beans were crunchy after 9 hours of cooking. Wasted $30.00 worth of Beef Tenderloin.

It is easy to understand why Camellia Red Beans are recommended in many of my favorite Red Beans and Rice recipes call for this brand. They fon' Need to be soaked overnight and taste very fresh. When I originally ordered them, I selected 2 Day Shipping but was told the order would arrive a week later! I complained and asked to cancel my order if it was going to take that long. They asked for my order #. The beans were shipped before I could send them my order #! I am glad that they were shipped so quickly. I love the product.

I got a recipe for authentic red beans and rice from a TV cooking show. The chef recommended Camellia brand beans, but said that they may be hard to find. Sure enough, I found them on Amazon! They are known for having a more tender skin, so they are desirable for this recipe. The finished product had creamy beans which held up well during the long cooking time. I would definitely purchase these again!
