Necessary item for making pin cushions!
Teresa Belcher✓ Verified Purchase•August 20, 2017
This emery just can not be replaced by a substute when it comes to making pin cushions. It does the best job of cleaning needles and pins, removing rust, and keeping these items sharp. I've tried the substutes, they just don't do the same great job. It is a bit expensive and sometimes hard to find. solution to that problem is as follows: Stuff your pin cushion with a filling of your choice. Make a small Strawberry filled with Emery and attach it to the pin cushion,or at least include it with the gift and a note explaining it's use. That way they get the Bonus gift to keep their needles and pins sharp and clean.
Keeps Pins Sharp and Shiny

Made a pincushion with these, as I wanted something that would actually sharpen dull pins, which I don't believe crushed walnut shell can do. This works great, keeps my pins sharp and shiny, and I like the heft of a heavy pincushion. If I ever need to make more pincushions, I'll buy this again.
Lovely weighted pincushion

I used this for Pincushion fill and I am very pleased with it. The walnut shell has a fine grind and is not chunky. It has a nice firm feel when the pins go in - my other one that has poly fill is "wimpy". I also love the weight this gives my pincushion. I am going to use it to make a pincushion/thread catcher for beside my machine.
Leaks through fabric

This product is very finely ground. The consistency is more like sand. You may have to double the fabric used so that the grains will not sift through your project. I can't use it for the particular project I had in mind, however it can be used for maybe making weights.
8 ounces goes a long way! I bought this ...

8 ounces goes a long way! I bought this for a machine-mounted pincushion, and so far it has helped keep my pins sharp, and even sharpen some of my dulling ones. However, because I had big dreams for more little pincushions as gifts, I needed to buy more. So I then bought the 3lb bag...
