Built a very elaborate watering system for my neighbor's garden all out of PVC. Ended up with 3 different zones so that the water pressure would be high enough for the system to work. Anyway, needed to be able to turn off 2 zones so that water would flow to just 1 at a time and wanted this style valves so that if we decided to change something in the future of one of the valves failed we would not have to cut any PVC. Had these running all this year and still good to go. Might remove them for the winter since its so easy to do and get more life out of them. In my opinion these are the only way to go. If they ever fail or you decide to reconfigure the plumbing they are a part of you simply take them off and within minutes replace or reconfigure them.

I bought several of these to plumb my large aquarium. You will want these over the really cheap valves because these true union ball valves are easy to open and close. I noticed that on the really cheap valves I felt like I was going to break the valve every time I tried to open or close it. These open and close with little effort and require the same amount of pressure every time. This is one of the best valves for the money.

Used a few of these to create a manifold for my saltwater aquarium. The fact that have union on both ends make them ideal for maintenance and allows you the flexibility to retrofit your plumbing as needed while still controlling flow. Knobs are a bit stiff but I prefer them that way. Even then not as stiff as the lesser big box store versions. Worth the investment.
