Received today, excellent item. Made in USA, works great, highly recommended. Be sure to run calibration which is simple and just takes a minute. I bought a used item from Austin Bazaar, better than described, like new mint condition.

Updated after one month of use - Connected Theremini to Logitech Z623 400 watt home speaker system, sound is amazing! Low end notes are fantastic, capable of generating very low frequency tones, sounds as good as my Nord Lead 4. Stereo effect adds a lot to the sound. The echo/delay is very trippy. The Theremini is a professional sounding instrument. I would buy it again without hesitation.
Great for what it is meant for

I got the thermin bug by accident when I came across "those" videos...same as probably everyone else has watched many times. I chose the Theremini because I thought it would at least be a fun introduction to the theremin, and I could judge whether I would ever want a "real" theremin. I do really like the Theremini, and gave it five stars because it is good at what it does. I am hoping to use it in my writing and recording work eventually. I am a composer, mostly for harp, but have done a lot of piano, clarinet and Native American flute writing as well. I thought theremin with harp would be fantastic if I should actually learn to play.
I realized right away that I needed to improve the "theremin" sound. I toyed with the idea of buying an amp, but instead hooked it up to my audio interface (to my studio computer) so it plays out of my good speakers. Immediate, awesome improvement in the sound. The bonus is, I can record it as an audio track directly into Sonar, to mix with harp tracks, etc. That is...if I DO get good enough at actually playing it.
The theremini makes practicing more fun because of all of the experimentation you can do. And you can turn the dial so it hits the notes more easily, which is helpful in the beginning for sure.
The editing software works fine. If you like the chromatic scale and are tired of endless turning the dial to get it when playing some of your favorite "presets," you can use the editing software to save it so that the chromatic scale automatically comes up when you go to a particular preset. You can also replace any of the presets on your theremini with others. You can find dozens of presets for the Theremini, load them into the software, and put them on the Theremini if you so desire. If I can only learn to play, this instrument will be very useful in my work.
Lots of cool sounds

I did a public performance my very first night after unboxing it! I also amused a dinner group on my second night! You can see both my performances on by YT channel Bravehearts Beard Studios. Wide variety of built in sounds to try. And the sounds can be edited and reprogrammed! Lots of fun.
Perfect for performing MC Hammer's #1 hit

I hate soldering. I'm no good at it, I always burn myself - and it doesn't matter how many times my electrical engineer brother teaches me. There was a point in the process of building this kit that I really regretted not paying the extra $50 for the assembled kit, but I kept reminding myself of the benefits of building it myself - not only is it more meaningful, but you get to come to a better understanding of how it works, and might even be able to repair it if anything were to ever break on it. The soldering, despite my lack of skill, was actually not as bad as I feared. I glanced over the instruction manual before starting any assembly, followed it line-by-line while assembling (without soldering anything), tested it, and then soldered everything. It probably took a total of 2 hours at the most, but keep in mind most of that was me trying to get used to soldering and the requirement that you "believe" in order for the solder to actually melt. Also, I didn't stain the cabinet at all. I like the bare/naked look...also, I just wanted to start playing with it.

I've shown a few friends at work who couldn't believe that I actually had one...other co-workers just walked by as if they were hearing perfectly normal office sounds. I've been wanting a theremin since the first time I saw one at a Man or Astro-man? show back in 2001. I saved up $25 per paycheck for about 8 months or so. That's all it took. It's not easy to play, but the included DVD w/ Clara Rockmore footage is inspiring. I'm determined to learn to play proper melodies rather than flail around aimlessly on it like I've seen a lot of otherwise talented musicians do. I mean there's no "wrong" way to play it, but I'd just like to learn to play it both ways...and I've managed to get the flailing style mastered on my first try.

If you've ever wanted one and you like DIY projects (even if you hate soldering), get this kit.
When I finally got one, it proved to be everything I thought it was.

I did successfully order one on here, but somehow it completely disappeared in shipping and was never to be recovered. I did get a full refund, so that's great. Since it was a birthday gift I had to source another one and I did, and it did successfully arrive and was mint and working perfectly. The main reason to get this model over the traditional style Theremin is the data screen where you can see what notes you are playing to reference your learning position, and this optional mode programming feature is a great tool for learning music theory in terms of scales and keys while listening to what the sounds are of each scale and mode in any key as you learn the instrument. I found that being able to limit the note range is amazingly helpful as you can limit the antenna response to something like only 2 or 3 octaves if your required notes only span that range, and the ability to nail each note will be simplified instead of using a high resolution over a wider range in a small space of hand movement. Practicing quietly with headphones or loudly through the outputs to a PA or amp, the many presets (32) can make it less mind numbing to students who find it very challenging.
