SOG Kukri = Awesome
Scott•January 6, 2018
I really like this Kukri. It has good size and weight to it, feels very good in the hand. As soon as I got mine, my wife and I took turns slashing up a pretty heavy duty TV box. The box didn't make it lol. Anyway very aggressive look and feel. The sheath, while it doesn't have the ability to Quickly in a rush, take it in and out, is well made and sturdy. Have it strapped to my survival back pack, and will shortly have another on order to go with my Wife's pack. Love the SOG products.
Works well. Sharpen before first use!

Wanted a mini machete to take with me in my hydration pack when I mountain bike. So far this is working okay. The blade could be sharper. The positioning of the the saw edges takes some getting used to - I could see how it would be easy to mishandle and cut yourself. But I can confirm that the saw worked nicely yesterday when I encountered a downed tree branch in the middle of my bike path. Was able to saw it off and resume riding. Nice.
Better than a hatchet.

Big sharp knife. What's not to like? I've used this a bit on a fallen tree. I think that this is a better tool than a hatchet, or at least any hatchet I've ever owned. It cut through tough vines and small branches quickly. I got through thicker stuff by cutting chunks out of one side of the tree, much like you would with an ax.
On the sheath, it's not a quick draw, so the zombies will get to you before you undo the Velcro and unzip the blade. It does seam very durable though.

Beware

Correction: I confused my review it's not Gerber who made this poor quality machete, it is SOG!
Hairs laminated in the finish coat on one side of blade
and big finger size smudges in the paint of the other.
No quality control! Rip off, Beware

The saw edge looks pretty useful and the handle has a metal ridged piece ...

This is a big KNIFE. It says that it is a machete, but I think that may mislead people to believe that this can take abuse and in the reviews clearly that isn't the case. If you need a knife to beat up in a jungle this isn't what that's for. It's a BIG KNIFE. Light use with small jobs might keep this from snapping in half as the blade is HUGE but THIN. The saw edge looks pretty useful and the handle has a metal ridged piece you can bash a skull in with or break a window with if your magic trick locking yourself in a glass box went horribly wrong. I'd use this for self defense and a light weight camping trip. It's pretty intimidating. I wouldn't recommend this for self defense if you didn't know how to use it as it can probably easily be used against you. Chances are you're not using it for that and looking for a legitimate MACHETE for cutting thick vegetation, I wouldn't bet on this one :S
