Works great! Does not do well with oranges, celery, and pineapples, but the performance with everything else is outstanding.
Very Good Juicer
PrimeLover✓ Verified PurchaseNovember 23, 2023
I ordered this juicer and it arrived last week. I've used it at least a dozen times and it is indeed a great juicer, as everyone else here has described. I will tell you how it is compared to the juicer I own and love, so that others can decide if they want to replace their current ones or not. I use the Omega VRT350, and have no issues with it, use daily and love it. I only bought the Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer because I needed a second juicer for all the traveling I do, and this one seemed exactly the same with a few "improvements" I thought I'd really like to have. The improvement I like the most is the bowl. The Kuvings bowl is flat inside without all the nooks and crannies that are in the Omega bowl, so it makes it a little easier to clean. The silicon flap under the bowl is bigger on the Kuvings, but I feel like the slightly smaller and less flat one on the Omega is easier to get in tightly (very important to avoid any leakage). Though, neither of these differences are deal- breakers. The Kuvings is much taller with the top on and I don't actually like having to use the pusher so much. On the Omega, I never have to use the pusher; an apple chunk, cucumber or carrot is all that's needed to push any greens down just with gravity... simply drop things in and the Omega pulls it all down into the auger. I'm hoping to get used to having to use the pusher on the Kuvings so much, though. It's a personal choice, of course, not really a design flaw. Also, on the feed tube subject, while it's very nice to have such a big opening (3"), you really need two hands to feed in greens, celery, and any other smaller cut items. A big funnel needs to be on top so one can just drop it in with one hand. Having to use 2 hands, I find I need a little more counter space. With the Omega, I can feed anything one-handed (may not be an issue for some people, but my set-up is juicer on the counter to the left of the sink so I can clean up easily). I do like the green basket/screen cleaner that comes with the Kuvings, it works great. The only other negative is that I actually need the thinner cleaning brush that came with my Omega to clean the pulp chute on the Kuvings bowl. The chute on the Kuvings is slightly longer than on the Omega bowl, so I need the Omega thin brush end to scoop it out easily, just like it does so well for the Omega.

Summary: If I were buying my first upright masticating juicer, I would buy the Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer, for sure. If I have the Omega VRT350 already and am looking to replace it with the Kuvings just for the improvements, I wouldn't, that would be money spent unnecessarily. However, I would do exactly what I just did and buy the Kuvings or the Omega for a second juicer. I am planning on using my Omega for my *travel juicer because it is smaller overall than the Kuvings. So my Kuvings will be the permanent fixture in my kitchen. I rated 4 stars overall rather than 5, just because of the slight awkwardness of use as compared to the Omega... not because of performance, which is excellent.

*By "travel" I mean via car. I drive state to state and stay places for weeks at a time so won't be without my juicer. I wouldn't risk either good heavy juicer on a plane, though, too much risk for damage as your bags get tossed all over the place.

UPDATE: I just wanted to add that after fiddling with it a little bit, I figured out how to get the silicon chute flap easily into it's slot. It's now just as easy for me to get it in as it is to get the smaller Omega one in it's own slot (yay me!). Anyway, I just insert the very tip of the top of the flap in first, and the rest of it follows as I push evenly and firmly with my thumb. Maybe hard to picture that... sorry... just fiddling with it for a few minutes initially will get it in there easily each time in about 3-4 seconds, though... we're all a little different. I know this isn't an issue at all for anyone who bought the Kuvings without ever having used an Omega (or any other juicer for that matter). Happy juicing!
Great juicer

Previously I used a Green Star twin gear juicer. Loved it, but it required constant pressure on the the veggies while feeding them into the machine. I have recently developed a degenerated disc in my lower back which made this painful for me so I gave my favorite juicer to a friend and was on a mission to find one that would be easier for me to use and would work as well. Juice I must!

I was considering the Omega VRT 400 after seeing how easy it was to use in a video, but after reading the reviews there was talk of issues with the screen grinding the bottom surface of the bowl. I emailed them to see when they projected the issue would be corrected and never heard from them so I continued my search. I am so glad that I did.

This juicer is not only easy to assemble, disassemble and clean, it is also easy to use. It takes up no more counter space than my Vita Mix and it fits under the cupboards. I store the catch containers and other accessories in a draw nearby. I found it took less time to use than my beloved Green Star and it did not cause me any pain in my back while using it as it is pretty much self-feeding with the exception of putting in some larger fruits or veggies. Even then it took little pressure, but I chose to quarter my apple and it did not need the plunger at all. The greens juiced well (and no foam) with my rotating them with the soft and hard veggies and fruits as I fed them in as suggested in the video. The only time the pulp was a little damp was when I fed too much apple in at once when rotating my greens, veggies and fruit otherwise the pulp was almost, not quite, as dry as with my Green Star. I would say a pulp dampness difference that is barely noticeable is a fair trade-off for such ease of use so I could juice daily again. I have not yet tried wheat grass so I will post a review when my flat grows tall enough to cut.

The only place that took any work to clean was the pulp discharge shute. I had to manually clean out about a 3/4 inch of carrot pulp even after running a cup of water through the juicer while running in an effort to flush it out. I did not feel any of the brushes provided worked well for this task, but it was no big deal. The screen brush worked well and totally cleaned the screen thoroughly with about three twists. Even so, it took a lot less time and effort to clean than my previous juicer. I am sure those two "issues" will be resolved once I get past the "learning" stage of a new juicer.

All in all, I love my new juicer and would totally recommend it.
Short term 'but lots of usage' product review

I was disappointed at first due to all of the 'fine print' limitations but as I use it more and more I am making adjustments and am thoroughly enjoying the product as a whole.

Pros
- Excellent for juicing leafy veggies with the large feed tube.
- Large feed tube.
- Reduced (not eliminated) juicing prep

Key Improvements that could be considered
- Less plastic & rubber pieces. This would dramatically increase the price of the product, but all the plastic pieces directly related to the juicing prevents higher levels of torque required for less jams, stoppages & mid-juice cleanings. I do not have a long-term outlook yet as far as wear & tear durability of the plastics and rubber... so this will eventually become a "Pro" or a "Con."
- Auger design. The feeding angle and auger alignment allows relatively large pieces to get trapped within its initial grooves
- Smoke finish to plastics. The 'look' is appealing but a transparent finish would be much more functional. Being able to see the inner workings, more clearly, and its current state would be helpful rather than stopping operation and partially disassembling to diagnose reduced flow, jams, etc.

Cons
- Plastic & Rubber. The amount of plastic and nylon/rubber used to construct this product and the limitations induced (frequent jams due to torque limitations of plastic pieces) because of this. I'm also worried of when the time comes that usage requires the replacement of a lot of the moving pieces made of plastic.
- Motor torque. Refer to 'Plastic & Rubber' above.
- Reverse. Having to hold the upper assembly when reversing the motor due to the movement 'unlocking' the upper assembly and creating the possibility of stalled operation due to the built in 'safety' measures to keep it from operating when not fully seated / assembled.
- Marketing the product as if you can 'actually' feed produce the size of the tube when a 'feed tube safety guide' prevents any such possibility. The preparation steps are much quicker with this than smaller-feed-tube juicers but the 'marketing' and 'packaging imagery' led to some of my disappointment when first opening and using the product. Realizing I was not going to be able to be as lazy as I had ignorantly prepped myself for.

I also own an Omega 8006 Nutrition Center Juicer which is very nice (takes up a bit of room, very slow due to small feed tube prep required, but super efficient and rarely ever jams due to very simple design--which is the blessing & curse of the 8006) but I wanted to attempt a large mouth vertical masticating juicer in a relative attempt to speed things up when I juiced lots of leafy veggies. Know this going in with masticating juicers, they are slower (and SO much quieter) and usually have more intricate post-juicing clean-up but yield much better tasting juices than centrifugal juicers.
Excellent Juicer (With tips!)

This is our second juicer and has by far impressed us over the Omega VRT350. (Still a good juicer just a level below this one)

Some great features are:

The "smokey" feed chute shows you the produce getting crushed! (cool to watch)
The smart cap allows you to mix and see the yield of juice you get from each item put in
The large feed chute reduces the amount of prep time by half
Leafy and more fibrous produce are easily juiced without blocking the exit chute (HUGE IMPROVEMENT over the Omega)
Way less pulp compared to the Omega (Perfect amount, you're not eating your juice but its not pure liquid)
You don't have to cut your produce into tiny pieces prior to juicing and you roll the leafy greens (way better!)
Clean up is easy with the brushes provided and smart cap.

The minute we turned on this juicer we knew it was going to be a good one.
We Love it :)

See John from Discount Juicers for all the reviews and comparisons of juicers available. Very helpful in deciding which is right for you! (Thanks John)

***Update***

We are still loving this machine. We did notice a manufacturing defect with our juicing screen so we contacted Kuvings Support and they sent us a new one free of charge. Someone mentioned in another review that when you buy on Amazon you may not have the warranty coverage. We had to send Kuvings a copy of our invoice and they had no issues with it.

***Update Aug 2015***

Juicer still working great, I make green juice regularly and thought I would share a tip on how to get it moving nicely through the juicer.. alternate what you put in for example:
Kale
Cucumber
Celery
Cabbage
And repeat

Another tip I've recently discovered is using cabbage. It pushes everything through (even fussy kale and celery) and cleans out the strainer very well which makes cleaning easy. The cabbage also gives the juice a much more balanced/mild taste.

***Update March 2016***

So Juicer is still working great, today the silicon plug just tore (I use it at least twice a week still), emailed Kuvings (this morning) since they do not offer that piece for sale on their site and they are sending us a whole new bowl under warranty(responded within two hours)! This company is absolutely amazing with their customer service, I don't think I could be more impressed! 100% worth the money not only for a great product but the service as well! Such a rare thing these days.
