Beware of bad pumps
Amazon Customer✓ Verified Purchase•March 6, 2018
I have bought 4 of these items. Only one worked which was the very first one. The pumps don't work and I am tired of playing with them. You would think a major company like Exo Terra could make a pump that works. I wish I had read the reviews first.
This pump has been a mainstay of my reptile husbandry for over a year!

I am purchasing a second one of these because I like the first one so much. After reading the reviews, I almost didn't purchase this pump the first time, but I talked with another reptile buff and she convinced me otherwise. This pump works fantastic if you learn a couple of tricks to use when the pump runs dry, or when you are starting it the first time. Incidentally, I have had my first pump for over one year working constantly, and I'm still very happy with it. Here are the tricks: When first starting the pump, make sure that you disassemble it in the water source and squeeze out all of the air bubbles from the foam filter. Reassemble the pump in the water source, and water should run smoothly through the pump. Basically, you have to make sure the foam filter is saturated before the pump will run smoothly. The second trick, and I'm not entirely sure why this works, is to pull the tubing out of the top of the pump while the pump is running. Wait a couple of seconds for the pump to run, and you should get a nice short fountain coming up out of the pump. Stick the tubing back onto the pump. Water should immediately start coming out of the top leaf. This trick never fails me.
Works great with easy fixes

Clogs, so I pulled the wire out of the feed tube and Noted that the bend on top WILL keep it's shape. I use clear plastic deli cup 4/12" diameter to hold pump and water - also has flat bottom which is great for suction cups on pump bottom. Clean tubes from pump to base of leaf assembly weekly with long bamboo skewers which do a great job. This is VERY important especially with Chameleons. Bacterial growth in their drinking water will end very badly. All Reptiles - use ONLY reverse osmosis, spring, or distilled water. Spring water is fine.

Great for my chameleon! It's big enough for him to drink on his vines, and works on its own! No humidty requirements. Just fill a bowl with water, plug it in, and watch the magic!
