The boots do NOT have carbide studs as stated in the product description, therefore you'll still slip, slide and fall. Rubber will not keep you from falling on ice or give you traction. I'll continue my search for true carbide studded boots. I ordered a half size up and had plenty of room to wear thick socks. No problem with fitting on my calves which are muscular. They hug your ankles which will help prevent twisting or breaking your ankle when you slip on the ice. Cute boots but cute doesn't count when it comes to ice.
but overall quality was good, I like them

A little heavier than I thought, but overall quality was good ,I like them.
So warm but need the metal spikes!

This boot is so warm and comfortable BUT the rubber without the metal tips is useless on ice. I will get a pair with the metal next year.

Just got these - haven't had a chance to break them in. The sizing is bang on. I ordered a 10.5 US (42 EU) and I normally wear a 10 US. They were a tad large, which is what I would expect. They are quite stiff and do force your legs forward a bit the way their shaped (I think a previous reviewer posted that). That being said, if you are tromping around in the snow, I'm not certain this is an issue. My husband has the Sorix2 as well and he has no complaints. I would say I have an average sized calves (maybe even on the large side) and there were no issues with these being too tight. I went with bugsole instead of bugrip. Hoping for a walk tonight and I will update on the grip! They are rated for -40 and are so so warm! I had them on around the house and I was baking in them *lol* This is definitely a heavy duty winter boot. Meant for outdoor activity, not quick jaunts here and there. I'm all for a pretty boot but am excited to have these for when the winter means business :)
These Stiff Boots Have A Plus Side

Great at keeping the slushy water out! The soles do a fair job on solid ice. For sizing make sure to go up at least a size and a half. They are stiff so they do need to be broken into. However, you won't have to worry about any twisted ankles in these midcalf boots. I personally feel more secure when walking on slippery surfaces just for that fact.
