The estimated delivery date was posted as on or after Sept. 26th; it came on Sept. 20, which is a pleasant surprise. It only took a fifteen minutes to unbox and setup. Ahh, the smell of new plastic. Make sure to follow the unpacking instructions by pulling out the three or four bits which hold things in place during shipment. My typewriter already had the carbon ribbon and correction tape installed from the distributor. To install the provided daisy wheel you must first lift out the ribbon and pull the lever for the daisy wheel toward the front of the typewriter. The daisy wheel slips into position very easily and then push the daisy wheel lever back to lock it in place. After putting the ribbon cartridge back in, it was a matter of plugging the typewriter in, putting in some paper and giving it a test spin (pun intended). It comes with the Prestige Pica 10 font wheel. The correction ribbon was already installed. The unit had obviously been tested before it was shipped, which is a great idea. I typed a line and then pressed the correction key to erase the last character. Hmmm, only the bottom half of the character seemed to get erased. A little looking under the hood and I discovered that the correction tape had slipped down off of its guide post. Must have happened during shipment. I slid the correction ribbon back up ontothe guide and tried it again and the correction feature worked perfectly. I went through every feature and function in the manual provided; it all worked as advertised. I'm a happy camper. This unit replaces an old Facit electric (all metal and built like a tank) that bit the dust after twenty years of abuse. I've already put the AE-710 to work, typing checks and addressing envelopes, as part of my homeowner association treasurer duties. So far it's working great. I'll update this review should anything crop up in the near future. I'm not a big fan of plastic daisy wheels, so we'll see how that part holds up.
As far as noise goes, yes it goes clack when you type, but it isn't any worse than the old IBM Selectrics used to be. It is a typewriter after all. The AE-710 has many more features than the old Facit machine had. For the little bit of extra money it might have been nice to have the LCD display, but for what I'm currently using it for, that would have probably been a bit of over kill.
So, summing up. My initial impression are very good and I would recommend it to anyone who needs an electronic typewriter. It remains to be seen how well it holds up.
