I've figured out the best way to do it now
AROY0✓ Verified PurchaseFebruary 13, 2017
Have spent about 10 nights sleeping on this since I bought it and it is a game changer! Wish I had bought one years ago. Saves so much room in my pack and doesn't weight that much at all. Has held up really well, even when camping with a 50lb dog that usually gets put in the tent around night time and likes to stomp and spin on the bedding to settle in for the night. The only issue I've had with it is it definitely has to be folded up in a specific way in order to get all the air out and to be able to fit it back in it's stuff sack. I've figured out the best way to do it now, but other than that I couldn't be happier with this purchase!
Good for big dudes. Ok for big dudes who are also side sleepers.

Ok, I am a big guy with very broad shoulders. I'm 6'4" and 250lbs. I have other backpacking pads, but they are all pretty narrow to save weight. That's great when hiking, but when you get to camp and want to get some sleep, I found I would often fall off the pad and wake myself up.

This is the first pad I've found that doesn't have that problem. I slept better on this than on other pads that cost a lot more, because it is actually wide enough to fit me comfortably, and I don't slip off of it in the middle of the night. Indeed, the width is palatial - it feels almost like you are sleeping in a regular bed in terms of the width.

As for comfort, I will give it two different ratings. If you lay flat on your back and your weight is spread over the surface area of the pad broadly, I found it quite comfortable, even plush. If you sleep on your side, it is still decent, but really not nearly as good. When you press all your weight down into a small part of the pad it still works, but it gets quite firm. The pad is just not that thick and so it just doesn't cushion you as well if you are side sleeper. I am normally a side sleeper, but I soon realized I should just lay flat on my back, because I found it was making my shoulder uncomfortable. If you aren't as big as me, you might not have that issue, but if you care more about sleeping on your side than having a wide pad, there are better choices out there.

It isn't insulated, but I found I could use it down into the 30s with a decent bag and one of those reflector/emergency blanket things under it.

It seems well-made and is unlikely to fail, assuming you are careful with it.

Overall, I am pretty satisfied with this pad. It is a bit heavy to backpack with, but it has won a place in my pack despite its weight. At least for me, it is significantly more comfortable to sleep on than the narrower pads I had been using. It isn't perfect, but I think it is a good value for the money.
Works as advertised for non-camper -

Ok - my expectations were low as this is a pad and not a full air mattress, but I have to say this thing was great. Additionally, I'm not an active camper - definitely not a tough-guy camping enthusiast, so my bones don't take well to sleeping on the ground. So this review is high praise. Used this for the first time on a camping trip for my son's recently joined scout pack. I'm 5'11 and 280lbs - so I'm not light either. Best thing I can tell you is that now that I own this, I'm willing to go on the next camp out.

Update 3/2017
Used this on a overnight campout inside a museum....so it was a HARD, HARD floor. Worked great. And was MUCH less clunky than a few air matresses I saw being set up.
Far exceeded expectations!

This is the 1st true sleeping pad I have purchased and VERY surprised at the comfort level. This is a replacement for a cheap but thick Coleman Slim Twin air mattress that sprang a leak. Was pretty tough to justify the price with how seldom I use it since I don't go camping and this is actually for use on military aircraft and the occasional emergency sleep spot when visiting (or have visitors). The Coleman just couldn't take the cold- the plastic bottom would become "brittle" and developed pin-hole leaks.

My concern was that it would be too thin and I would bottom out on it and it would be basically an overpriced pool float. Took it out, blew it up (pretty quickly I might add) and still wasn't very enthusiastic looking at it. Looks thin, funky design and weighs nothing. Then I laid down on it (on hardwood floor) and was blown away. Never thought it would work, especially laying on my side (I'm 5'11" wide shoulders and 205 lbs) but no hard spots. Even wound up letting a little air out to soften it a touch! My wife, who is a "big-boned" lady was VERY perturbed when I purchased this instead of another $20 Coleman begrudgingly agreed that it was pretty astounding when she tried it out. Very comfortable overall and wide enough to fit perfectly under my rectangle sleeping bag.

Will test it out in the coming weeks on the hard, cold steel deck of a military cargo plane with my trusty sleeping bag but my expectations have already been far exceeded.
This is the best sleeping pad of all the inflatable ones that I've ...

This is the best sleeping pad of all the inflatable ones that I've tried. I tried it out camping one day and, even though it was my first experience with an inflatable sleeping pad, I knew that it must be one of the best all around pads. I was basically just checking it out and admiring how well designed it was. The ribbed design makes it sturdy. The angle changes make it easier to feel where you are and help with comfort. The material is quiet (seriously, for me this is a big deal especially compared to so many of the other models that have that grippy sound or crunch like you're playing with a stack of bubble wrap with the really really tiny bubbles) when you move on it. Lightweight and compact. I went to some stores and compared this with all of the other show models (which were inflated for testing) and it indeed was better than everything else due to the things that I just mentioned. I weigh about 150 pounds, and am fit, that might matter when considering this versus other padding styles. And FYI the auto inflating things are ridiculous, this takes like 6 breaths to fill it. If you're a human who is fully alive, you'll have this thing ready to go in like 30 seconds.
