AMAZING
Tech SavageJune 4, 2016
These walkie talkies are great and they have a really long transmitter distance. The are made of a plastic with a rubber antenna. These walkie talkies come in a 2 pack and each one has its very own charging dock, earpiece, and a belt clip. The pair comes with a programming cable that allows you to change certain settings. There are a total of 16 available channels on these walkie talkies. I recieved this product at a discounted price for an honest review.
Tons of potential if I get the software figured out!

This item was sent to me for my unbiased review. I was sent RT7 2-way radio 2 pack with the request to review on different bundles with the same radio. This is my review of the radio. Not the quantity for how the radio comes in the various packages. It needs to be stated that this will be a multipart review. So here we go. This seems to be a very well built radio. It has a simplistic design that i initially find appealing. It has a slim frame, light weight, and not a terrible price.
Now i would like to go into some pros and cons on the radio. I always start with the cons. I like to end on a good note.
Cons:
* Software is the only reason the radio is getting three stars at the moment. You may have to program the radio right out of the box. The basic walkie talkie features work very well. However, some of the features have to be set up with software. Which leads me to my next reason. The software is a little confusing. There isn't a step by step guide to tell you which program goes with your RT7. I contacted the company to help aid me in the right direction. They have sent me new instruction, which I will try out soon. I will post updates to the review after I have tried these new instruction.
As you see, software is my only complaint with this radio.
Pros:
* The radio has a simple design. There is not a bunch of buttons you have to search through. This makes it a great bug out radio or road trip radio.
* The radio without a fresh charge right out of the box transmitted very clear a 1/2 mile through dense pines. I was really impressed with that.
* The Walkie Talkie Portion of the radio does come in very clear.'
* The radio comes with charging station, software cable, software, headphones, and a belt clip. There isn't anything else you would need.
* The radio is super light. I use mine without the clip and just throw it in my pocket. It has a slim low profile design.
In Summary at this point, I find the Retevis RT7 to be a good radio with a lot of potential. This could be a great radio once the software status gets updated. I think this could be a great radio for teams. It has really crisp sound.
Does this do the same as more expensive rivals?

It took me a short while to figure everything out but once I did I was pretty impressed with these 2-way radios. A two-way radios is a radio that can transmit and receive through an agreed frequency or channel. They operate in a half-duplex mode which means that only one person can speak at a time. I really was impressed with these radios because:

👠They are a great value that get the same thing down as other versions that cost hundreds of dollars more.
👠There is an FM radio function. You can listen to FM radio - when someones talks, the radio fades off, then back on.
👠I tested these and was able to get 1.5 miles before they would not work. They state they can go up to 2 miles, so this is probably accurate when there is a clear path.
👠I like that it comes with two chargers and two ear pieces.
👠The VOX feature is really cool - you don't have to press the button it will automatically sense when you are speaking
👠There is a 1 year warranty and also a 30 day no questions ask return policy

Notes and Points of Interest:

👉 To turn the FM on - With the unit OFF, hold down the Monitor key and turn the unit ON. You can change the channel by pressing the monitor key or moving the channel selector.
👉 To change VOX mode - Adjust to channels 1-5 and then turn the unit OFF, hold down the PTT and Monitor key and turn the unit ON. It will say 'VOX on/off"
👉 To put into scan mode - Adjust to channels 16 and then turn the unit OFF, hold down the PTT and Monitor key and turn the unit on. It will say ON and then say 16.

Does What It Advertises 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5/5 - Yes - works very well and does a super job!
Quality Of The Product 🌟🌟🌟🌟💢 4/5 - This is a high quality product but may not stand up to severe abuse due to the plastic casing

Purchase Satisfaction 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5/5 - Great choice

💢 Final Thoughts:
I was surprised these went almost 2 miles in range when I tested them out. After spending some time figuring out the functions I was really impressed with the capabilities of this 2 way radio. The price is very competitive and is inline with others along this line. I would recommend this and would definitely buy again. A good buy that I would recommend to anyone. The RT7 seem to be better made and they function better

This review is for the Retevis RT7 2-Way Radio 3W 16 Channels UHF 400-470MHz VOX FM Radio Ham Handheld Transceiver (Silver Black Border, 2 Pack) and Programming Cable

I have the motorola sets that I am comparing this to.

The RT7 seem to be better made and they function better.

In my test of the review sample I was able to reach greater distances that with my Motorollas. I was able to get to four miles before my test partner lost interest and demanded beer for the hard work that he had accomplished helping me in the five minutes he put in.

Programable and more features than competitors like cobra and motorola, as least in this price range. I really like the voice activated hands free feature.

Here are some of the specs

Frequency Range: UHF:400-470MHz
Power: 3W
Channel capacity: 16 channels
Frequency Spacing: 12.5kHz/25kHz
Battery capacity :1500mAH
Could be a little better but still great as is

The pair - offered by vendor at a substantial discount as a 'for review' item - fully meets my expectations and, apparently, goes beyond, supporting features that I will never use, need or even understand but, I suppose, it's good to have them just in case.

So let's go methodically and start with the few negatives which they are two. And the 2 negatives are the clip belt installation which is a pain so BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THOSE SCREWS because they are small and they tend to drop and hide. Also, you MUST take out the batteries before you attempt to attach them or it's going to be 'mission impossible'. And, of course, it's the manual. I wish some of the setup steps, such as installing the clip belt were actually explained and illustrated - in this case clarifying that the screws for the clip are actually in the radio's body and have to be removed first.

What is important, however, is that these radios - can I call the walkie-talkies? - actually work and work well and there's no need to take a college-level class in 'radios' to actually use them. This is how they work:

- Turn on power/volume on both radios.
- Set them both to the same channel - just turn the knob
- Whenever you want to say something press what the manual calls 'the PTT key' (a large button on the side), have the radio some 6 inches from your mouth and say it. The person carrying the second radio will hear you and the conversation can begin.
- The person at the other end can do the exact same thing to respond back, therefore the need to maybe say 'over' when finished so you don't both talk at the same time.

And this is just about it. I was surprised at the near complete absence of static, even when we were a couple of miles apart which translates into 'good quality' or maybe we don't have much radio pollution in our area which happens to be very sparsely populated. But we used them at a shopping mall (did get the looks) and it was good as well.

I am not going to go through the long list of features because they are all spell out at Amazon's page and half of them I don't understand. From a user point of view, I appreciate the fact that the radios come with their own chargers - 2 radios, 2 chargers that is - their small size and lightweight makes them very easy to wear once you install the belt clips. The earpieces are also nice to have but I can't see us ever using them. One good use outside of outdoors activities would be in a 2-car trip to constantly stay in touch with the other car without having to be on the phone constantly.

Capabilities that I will never take advantage off include the PC programming capability via the "QS standard programming software". You can also do 'channel scan' set the voice prompt to Chinese if you don't want it in English and adjust a few more settings but, like I said, I seem to be happy with the radios as they are preprogrammed so I may never learn to program in QS.

So, besides the intense frustration I experienced when attaching the belt clips, this is still a clear 5 stars because I find it absolutely worth it for anyone who has a need for a pair of simple two-way radios. Since we happen to live practically 'in the woods' and we take frequent hiking trips in places where phones don't always work well, we can use these.
