If you are thinking about painting cabinets or furniture make sure to buy this brand!!

Used this paint driftwood along with seagull grey to paint my kitchen cabinets. The drift wood was too dark and the seagull was too light so I used a 3:1 ratio of dark:light grey. This paint mixes very easily and goes on very nicely. A little goes a long way. I used a paint brush only because I didn't like the mottled texture I was getting from the foam roller. I did 3 coats of paint and 3 coats of top coat on the cabinet doors since I have two big nosey dogs that like to put their paws on the counter. I bought primer but ended up not needing it. Only did some light sanding to get the varnish off my cabinets before painting. I had tested colors on the cabinets before painting and even with sanding I could not get the test colors off the cabinet so I knew I would be fine without primer. The top coat is used was flat coat also by general finishes. I wanted only a slight sheen to them and not shiny. The satin finish that I had bought was way too shiny for me and seemed more like a semi gloss than a satin. The flat top coat was just what I needed.
My $500 Amazon kitchen makeover

I am so incredibly happy with how my stupidly cheap kitchen makeover turned out. Literally everything was purchased on Amazon, and I did it all myself on random weekends while very pregnant (safely, of course). If I could do it, you can, too!

The whole thing (minus the kitchen gadgets--just the makeover) cost around $500 and was chosen for cost, looks, and simplicity of application (very pregnant, very impatient).

I'm attaching the before and after images, and I'll talk about the individual part relevant to this review. Here is the list of all remodeling purchases:

Love this paint. I'm extremely happy with how my kitchen cabinets turned out. This was a spur of the moment decision, to paint the cabinets. At some point I just couldn't stand them anymore, but getting a new kitchen wasn't something we ever intended to do in this house. I thought about getting new doors for the cabinets, but that seemed like the type of effort no one was going to tolerate. I was 7 months pregnant and reached the end of my limits, and ordered this paint, the semi-gloss top coat, and a heavy duty respirator. Over the weekend when my husband was away, I painted my kitchen; three base coats on Saturday and two top coats Sunday morning.

I used a degreaser on the cabinets and let that dry. Honestly, not sure if that did anything, they looked and felt the same after. But well, it says to do that. I then painted them with a brush not really paying too much attention, since I knew it needed at least one more coat (turns out, three total did the trick). Then I painted it again with the foam brush, and that's definitely the way to go. The paint went on much smoother with the foam brush. Finished it off with the top coat (using the foam brush from the start, two coats), and the kitchen immediately looked so much better. This started my desire to fix the rest of it, because my brand spanking new white cabinets looked dumb with the horrible dirty-beige countertop, so I slapped some stickers on it "in the meantime". The floor was just depressing, so I slapped some stickers on that, too. Some more stickers on the backsplash, and I'm so happy with the result!

Also, the paint didn't smell bad at all (actually, didn't smell much in general). So that was an added bonus!
... Finishes Dark Chocolate milk paint is by far my favorite! Can you tell which bathroom cabinet is painted ...

The General Finishes Dark Chocolate milk paint is by far my favorite! Can you tell which bathroom cabinet is painted and which one was bought the exact same color? Me either! It's a perfect match! I am in the process of painting every piece of trim & door in my house! Which door do you like best in my hallway? The bathroom cabinet has 2 coats of paint & one coat of General Finishes Top Coat. The hallway door has 2 coats of paint without a top coat. You can see the dark chocolate trim in the kitchen picture around the door, (2 coats & a top coat in this one) but look at the bottom trim between the cabinet at the white trim I hadn't painted yet, the dark chocolate makes my paint colors pop & look warm & inviting! (My Oak cabinets are painted with General finishes Linen, 3 coats & 1 top coat) When I told friends and family that I was painting my trim & doors dark chocolate they all told me not to, until the seen the results, now they are wowed as well! The bathroom cabinet that was bought the dark chocolate color at Lowe's is the top cabinet, but General Finishes dark Chocolate is an exact match! Easiest paint I have ever worked with!! (The last picture is one coat of dark chocolate over a white door & some people loved the old look that it gave so I included the picture) One coat over white looks almost black, but I used my flash so it doesn't look that way in the picture.
Pinterest Fail!! Don't use for kitchen cabinets

Last year I saw an awesome blog on pinterest that showed how a lady completely transformed her kitchen by painting her cabinets with this milk paint. No sanding or priming required! She even had a follow up video on how her cabinet paint held up a year after painting them. She had toddlers & found time to do this and they held up. I have a toddler too, so I thought this is the perfect paint to update my outdated kitchen! I followed the instructions perfectly in her blog & the instructions on the paint can itself. I put on 4 coats of the white milk paint over a few weeks time and then painted on 4 coats of the general finishes clear top coat in flat finish. The paints are thick and go on seamlessly, it seemed very promising. After only 3 months or so the paint started to crack around all the molding/creases on the cupboard doors. It looks awful and I'm still having to buy more of this paint at $30/qt to go over the molding and other spots where the paint is cracking & wearing off. Over $200 spent on general finishes products and I'm very unhappy with the results.
I absolutely love this paint and color
