Easy install! Saves money!

So simple! You'll spend more time getting the nut off the old antenna but if you use needle nose pliers it loosens. Work as a team.

I was in the car, husband at the fender, window down. Turn on power to radio, antenna cable pushed out and removed. Note the side the gear teeth on cable are aligned. Husband inserted new cable;I turned off radio and antenna cable was pulled into the antenna mechanism. Antenna down. Replace the nut and tighten. Done. You can do alone if you need to.

So simple and saves so much money over replacing the entire antenna assembly. And you don't have to remove the radio.
Easy to change

The day started out sultry. A fine mist lay over the land as I slowly drive my kids to school. It wasn't a chore. I took pride in doing the little things for them... lol... JJ..
But... I was extremely lucky, I think... the wife always wanted an older model 4runner. I found 2000 on a car lot. Great shape and less than 180K miles. The salesman and I talked. The wife showed up a bit later but in the meantime, I decided to go get it washed and detailed just up the road. Dropped it off and they washed/detailed it. $45 later, upon my inspection, I noticed the antenna was bent over to its side... WTF?!?!.. IT'S NOT EVEN BOUGHT YET.... and needless to say, I was in panic mode. I complained to the manager and at first, he was dismissive about the damage but then finally succumbed and said he'll pay for it but I would replace it. (They leave the key in the on position during the automated portion of the wash process as it goes through the car wash but didn't bother turning off the radio) A new one on Amazon was over $200.. I about sh!t a brick. He agreed to "reimburse" me. It took at least ten visits but he did.. out his own pocket... yea... felt really bad but was really surprised how he "stepped up" to take care of his customers. About a week after receivingthe antenna, I tried to fix it... LOL... there's no fixing this thing.. once that thing is bent and creased... it's done for. So I looked online on YT and saw a video.. the hardest part would be fishing that antenna cord back up to the radio. After researching it on the 4runner... I was like.. naaaa... no way... lol... then I remembered about seeing a video on how they just removed and reinstalled the rod portion... it's a bit more intrusive having to take apart the antenna housing but I believed a lot more doable. I bought just the rod replacement from Amazon ($25??) removed the antenna and as it was hanging there by the cord, I took it apart. Here's where my luck came into play.. there were no broken peices in the reel chamber!!... lol.. so I quickly put it back together and reinstalled it.. Asked my son to turn on the key, waited for the antenna to go through its cycle and fished the white portion down until it stopped (make sure you have the geared track facing the correct way) and then told him to turn off the key.... WORKED LIKE MAGIC!!.. two years later... no issues... then I went to the car wash and refunded him the difference.. about $180.. good times.. in the words of my childhood tv actors, John "Hannibal" Smith... "I love it when a plan comes together"... George Peppard... not Liam.. lmao

If you buy a cheaper antenna, you'll just end up buying this one when that one doesn't work. Don't do like me. Save yourself the trouble and buy this higher quality antenna that works right the first time!
