then it is nice (minus the odd cutting you may have done)

Warning for Trumpets with a 1st Valve Trigger - you will need a sharp pair of scissors to customize this item. It is meant only for horns with a 1st valve ring/U slide. After you've cut the leather apart to fit your horn, then it is nice (minus the odd cutting you may have done). Good quality leather, nice stitching, good feel. Pretty much my fault - I didn't even think about that first valve. Live and learn.
Excellent fit, very good protection

In the past I've always bought these from Leather Specialties, but I needed one in a hurry (Prime shipping vs. 7 day shipping to get my usual brand) so I took a chance on Pro Tec. I wasn't disappointed. Excellent fit, very good coverage, nice quality, and nearly $10 cheaper than LS. I wish the material was slightly longer (maybe 1/2 inch more) in the flaps covering the 3rd valve slide and near 1st valve where the bell connects to the valve body, but that's my only nit to pick, and the only reason I dropped it to 4 stars instead of 5. Definitely worth the money.
Doesn't fit cornet, but great for trumpet

I bought it hoping it might fit my new Thomann CR 400 cornet. But it doesn't fit the cornet at all. So I use it on my old 1955 Conn Victor 22B trumpet. Gives a nice grip, and preserves what's left of the lacquer job.
Quality Valve Guard

I've had the same Schilke leather wrap on my trumpet for literally 30 years... it was past time to get a new one.
My previous wrap left the metal where the 3rd valve meets the 3rd valve slide exposed and my fingers resting on there over the years has really worn down and corroded the metal severely. In shopping around, this Pro Tec wrap was the most complete coverage I could find, including a really good leather flap that fully covers that area and manages to do it without impeding the motion of the 3rd valve slide.
This guard is really well made and the materials are quality and don't smell bad. My fingers don't touch the metal anywhere except the slides and valve caps, and the right hand pinky hook!
My only issue is just a matter of me getting used to it - I realize I've been tucking my left thumb under the leadpipe all these years and now there is a leadpipe cover blocking my thumb. It doesn't seem to be an issue, but just something a bit different I'm getting used to.
Overall, very happy with this purchase. Recommended.

Nice fit, nice feel

Bought it to replace an old Bach-branded guard I got from friend years back. The Bach guard gave me zero extra grip (because it barely fit my non-Bach trumpet) but I came to like the feel of having a valve guard. Ordered this as a replacement and it is excellent. Feels great, fits my Getzen horn perfectly. I will say it definitely had a strong new-plastic-product-smell for the first few days of use, but that has since gone away.
