Update:
I had purchased both a red & a black cap & had only used the black on when I first wrote this review. The red one seems to close better & the cap is less inclined to pop off while trying to hold it out of the way to pour. I am wondering now if the black one I got was just slightly defective. I still wish it didn't need to be held out of the way while pouring, which is awkward when you're already holding something large & heavy. (Its doable, but I can imagine someone with weaker hands struggling with it) I'm giving a couple of stars back, but still think this design could use some improvement given the price.

So disappointed. I bought two of these, for this price, I expected a product that was fully functionally.

They don't close tightly enough to be leak proof. On top of that, pouring out of them, which is their entire purpose, is made difficult by a cap that falls down over the opening if you don't hold it up, which is awkward given the positioning as it also doesn't pull back all the way or even close to it. The icing on the frustration cake is that anything other than exceptionally gentle pressure while trying to hold it out of the way snaps it off entirely. The nubs holding it into the channels are far too small to do their job properly.

Its absurd really. Its such a simple product, it simply has to seal & open to pour. They did use good quality plastic, but the design is so basically, so fundamentally flawed I can't believe they get away with charging this price & I have to wonder how low our expectations are with products these days that these have gotten so many good reviews.

My biggest concern now is that I won't be able to find another product that serves the same purpose & I'll end up buying more of these frustrating things out of desperation. If anyone knows of a better product, let me know!

I purchased the original reCAP Mason Jars Pour Caps as a set of 4 - 2 regular, 2 wide mouth. Those were silver and I bought several years ago. While not perfect, they took some fussing to get them screwed on tightly so they didn't leak. They are great for making salad dressings, flavored oils, other items that you want to make and put in the fridge and the convenience outweighs the fussing of screwing the caps on.

These new once most recently purchased (July 2015). The flip tops do not seal well at all - in fact they randomly pop open! They are hard to screw on to keep them from leaking and the plastic has changed to a cheaper material. I won't buy these again. They are more expensive than the last ones as well. :(

I use these for fermenting by adding a bung (stopper) and an airlock to the top of a mason jar. I have a terrible time trying to get them on the jars as they don't seem to have proper threading or threads that easily grab the threading on the jar. Once I get them on, they are great. It makes the perfect setup for fermenting kimchee or sauerkraut. Getting them off is another issue. My husband disappeared to the garage with one we were having trouble removing so I am not sure what tool he had to use, but he eventually got it removed. Maybe reCAP 2.0 will have better threading. I would try again as I don't find the plastic to be flimsy in the least. I can't comment on actually using it to drink beverages as I don't use it for that purpose.
