I don't know if these are the greatest, because I have only used stock grips in the past.
But I can say, these work quite well!
I'm still having issue with my wrists, but I am still making adjustments to my riding posture. I still have too much weight on my wrists while I ride.

The grips give a lot more surface to hold on too, which is very helpful. They have a very positive grip.

I read that a few people are having issues getting the end bolt to tighten up.
I don't think its meant to have a solid tighten up feel to it. I believe you are supposed to snug it up and leave it alone.
The collar screw is used to tighten up the grip so it won't rotate.
I snugged mine up when I got it adjusted where I like it, and its solid!

As for the person asking if you can add mirrors to the end of the handle bars. Sure, if you cut the end off the grips.

I was saddened by the demise of bar ends on mountain bikes. I liked the extra protection from trees and branches and it also gave me an alternative place to put my hands.

I broke my previous pair and so I wrapped the broken upper part in fiberglass. It was a great fix but eventually they ended up looking too "clubs" so I bought these and was very pleased at the price and the whole shopping experience. Oh yeah, the ergo part of the grip is good for someone like me who makes his living with his hands (email etc.) :)

This is my first set of lock on grips and I'll forever stick with lock ons because of the ease of installation and removal. These are definitely much more comfortable than the original MTB grips on my bike. The caveats: these add at least an inch of width to the handlebar at each end. If you're hoping to widen your grip a bit, it seems like these will do it. I liked how that worked out on my flat bar. It also means that it could make them feel too wide if you're already pushing it. Also, because they are closed ended, you won't be able to mount any bar end accessories, like a mirror, for example. Overall I like them.

CORRECTION: The reason I saw such an extension on my handlebars is because they were not properly installed. I had removed and replaced them a couple of times and in the subsequent installs the interior locking mechanism that is driven by the bolt on the end was not seating properly inside the bar. The (flanges?) were butting up against the end of the bar instead of inserting into the bar.

Riding my bike now is a completely different experience now that I've replaced the stock grips with these; no more stiff wrists, numb hands, or shocks running through my arms.
It's worth noting that the light grey textured portions are especially grippy, and actually grab onto you - this is doubly true if you're wearing gloves, so you have a very secure grip with these.

really helped with hand numbness. use to only be able to ride for half an hour because my hands would go numb. now I can ride for an hour and barely get small tingles
