I like these because they are one solid piece. I had other bookends that were hollow in the middle and sometimes small book or/and papers got stuck or fell through. That does not happen any more. The one piece works for me.

I have an Ikea bookcase with glass shelves, and these work perfectly to hold things in place where others that are smaller and don't have pads sail off the shelves the instant I knock into it (which occurs about 24 times a day).
The black is decidedly utilitarian in look and feel, no getting around that. Flip side, I can't see myself paying extra for unicorns or for something in the shape of an anchor. Seriously, I'm definitely getting at least one other set. I doubt you'll find anything better within the same price range.

I ordered a white pair of these for my bookshelf, and my husband liked them so much, he immediately got on Amazon and ordered 2 black pairs for his bookshelf. These little guys are tough! They do the trick of holding up your books and adding even more space to your shelves with their simple design. Our other fancier bookends were just taking up too much space on our shelves, and we wanted more room for our books. These will help with that! Strongly recommend.

Very basic bookends that do the job. I will say that I bought these specifically for my DVDs which are on a floating bookshelf... So I can't speak to using them for books or especially for heavy books. But for what I was looking for - something inexpensive and slim enough to be barely noticeable - these were exactly what I needed. I'm 100% satisfied with these for my purpose. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that this is obviously a very utilitarian type of bookend set. I don't stare at them with hearts in my eyes... And as I already stated, I am hesitant to give them 5 stars as I'm not using them for books and can't speak to their performance in that situation.
