You'll get the older model that's 3 years old.
Noah•April 10, 2018
I was hoping to get the newest model like it shows on the product images, but I received the older model. I received the type 5749 which could go all the way back to 2015. So what I received was 3 years old give or take. Also, the Lithium Ion battery came completely discharged. This backs up my statement about being 3 years old. Lithium batteries are not designed to be stored completely discharged. By doing so, it damages the battery and it's the worst thing to do.
I'll be returning this and buying one directly from Braun.
Don't waste your time buying it here.

This Electric razor is a Great product. I Love being able to switch from Dry shaving to Wet shaving. Easy to clean in between shaves. Once fully charged, charge can last a while even when shaving every day!!

Great razor! Braun is the only razor I will purchase time I've been buying them for the last 20-plus years. His razor works well under all conditions and beards. Be nice to buy one that is more expensive, but not a necessity. Quite pleased, so pleased I have two of them.
Great shave!

Great shaver - love the waterproof aspects. The battery goes forever. Good close shave and easy to clean.
The Very Best for Multi-Day Beard Growth of Which I Am a Charter Member

At last I have a new Braun Electric Foil Shaver to replace my aging Braun 7526 razor I've been using for way over a decade. I still use it every time I shave because it has the best ever edge trimmer for my mustache upper lip area. I can cut the beard better and straighter than any other razor I have ever owned and I currently own 6 different modern era electric shavers. I just replaced the solder tab NiMH battery for the third time a couple of months ago. I have owned and used my old Braun 7526 razor longer that any of my other razors combined.
And now this wonderful new Series 5 5040 razor has arrived. This new Braun can cut multi-day old beard growth better than any other razor I have ever tried - six so far. and 4 courtesy of Amazon Vine. I am retired and I admit shaving my beard is not a priority except when I leave my house. I have two Panasonic razors and they gnaw away at long haired beards micron by micron. It just takes far too much time to wait for it to reach my skin. While my old Braun will work so much faster than my $100+ Panasonic razors on long beard hair, this new Braun 5040 is even faster than the old Braun - much faster in fact. The problem I had with the old Braun was the razor has grown dull and the replacements are outrageously expensive.
So now this Braun will cut through a five day old beard like it wasn't even there plus gives a close shave. One other razor was fairly fast on 5 day old beards, but it also yanked out some hair by its roots and that hurts. So I quit using that one and just kept on using my old Braun razor. I confess. I am 73 years old now and my social security income only gets me through half the year at best, so I'm rather frugal and I don't like paying over $100 for an electric razor unless I know it is worth that kind of money. And so far, the sub $100 razors can't cut my multi-day old beard without taking forever and the ones that cost over $100 don't do any better than the Panasonic Razor that I got for $55 on sale. That Panasonic razor was the high speed version and it gives a rather close shave. That's why I kept it along with my old Braun razor. I used them as a pair to cut my beard.
Now finally this Braun 5040 cuts through a long 5 day beard fast and easy plus it cuts just as close or closer than the $55 Panasonic razor. My wife did an objective evaluation. I shaved my beard on one side with my best Panasonic razor and this new Braun on the other side. She wasn't in the bathroom when I did it, so she had no idea which side was which. She kept feeling both sides in different places and said she thought the side with the Braun was definitely a closer shave, but the Panasonic side was a rather close second.
Okay, that's a good objective evaluation. However, I can tell you for absolute certainty, this Braun 5040 puts that same Panasonic shaver to shame with a multi day old beard. The Panasonic razor just gnaws and gnaws and gnaws the bread away ever so slowly, but it finally gets there. It misses some longer hairs entirely. Those hairs just lay over and don't get shaved at all. Not so with this Braun razor. It cuts through a 4 or 5 day old beard with ease plus gives a close shave.
Now I am still keeping my old Braun razor because the edge trimmer is still the best ever invented in shaver history for trimming the mustache above my upper lip. Even this new Braun razor is not so great for that task. It is as good as any other one, however. But not its own predecessor. Sometimes engineers get it perfect the first time and no matter how many times they change the design, it's never as good as the earlier one. The escalator mechanical design is a classic example. The mechanical design of modern escalators is still almost unchanged for way over 100 years. The motors and electronics have evolved, but not the basic mechanical design.
After I trim my mustache area, I use this new Braun razor regular shaver area to flatten it out by pointing the shaver vertically against where I just trimmed. That just perfects the edge - until it starts growing again. Actually it never stops. I'm 73 now and hair seems to be growing slower on top of my head and faster in my beard, nose and ears. I wish it was the same kind of hair because I'd transplant it. My wife pulls the ear hair. She hates ear hair.
Testosterone is a big factor in hair growth. Four months ago, I stopped testosterone injections because a blood test revealed not only did my testosterone increase (for only 3 days), but an estrogen like hormone went off the charts at the same time. My doctor told me to stop and get testosterone pellet implants instead, so I did - 7 pellets in my left buttock minus $865 in my wallet. My testosterone spiked from 107 (lowest normal level is 300) to an unimaginable 1500 and no female hormones. After 2 months it tapered off to 1200 - about the same as a crazed teenage boy. Even so, I'm still nowhere as good as a teenager. I can only wish. I needed more testosterone because my pretty wife is 44 years and 2 months younger than I am. Widowed and shopped worldwide for 9 years and eclipsed Trump while I was at it. And I'm not even rich.
And now I need this new Braun shaver more than ever. I am sincerely appreciative to have this razor - I truly am. It is so very much better than any of my six, now seven battery powered razors, of which all but three are in this same price range. The other $100+ razors are not even close to being in this Braun Series 5 class, most especially for those of us who do not shave unless it is absolutely necessary. Or when my young wife tells me to shave - more and more often. I shave for doctor appointments where are becoming more frequent as I age - wearing out. Tomorrow is a shaving day. Two doctors in one day, but only one shave required! I wonder if they will notice how close my shave is. They will be gawking at my wife in envy instead of me.
