Works great but only with certain chopsticks ( see photo)

My children love these things (2 & 4 yo) and are able to pick up their food using these. My mother, who has MS that affects her right side, now has to use her left hand to eat. With these things, she can use chopsticks with her left hand, she loves it! These only work with certain chopsticks, though; the disposable kind with the rectangular/boxed top (where the sticks are initially joined/where they pull apart) and circular body (see photo). You can get them at the Asian market. They do not work with any of my reusable sticks.

Opened up one to try it out before my granddaughter and it broke right away. As in I had it out of the package for less than one minute and it snapped. The other issue is that it is to stiff for little hands to use. Will be looking for another option.
Chopstick hinges are a good idea, however

Chopstick hinges are a good idea, however, these are poorly designed.

The slots to hold the chops sticks are too narrow: I have off-the-shelf round and square chopsticks and had to force them into the slot. Alternatively, I tried sliding the chopstick through the slot starting at the narrow end, but the hinge stopped halfway up the chopstick. After a few test movements the hinge popped off.

The plastic used to manufacture the hinge is stiff and does not allow the tips of the chopsticks to come together. If the tips cannot touch, it precludes eating small or thin food items or noodles in broth.

The hinge bridge is also much too small. When using chopsticks, the greatest range of motion is at the tips and tops of the sticks. These hinges restrict that movement, making it feel awkward.

If you're looking for a good training chopsticks for children, try 1 X Pororo Edison Training Chopsticks for Children or Edison Pororo Training Chopsticks for Right Handed 2 Step, Blue. My child uses them routinely and with ease.
Not awesome.

Bought these for my kids to help with using chopsticks. As other reviewers have said, they only work with the very thin restaurant chopsticks, not the kind you'd have at home.

The first two snapped as soon as we tried putting them on, the third we got on but they're pretty hard plastic so it was very difficult for my 4 yo to pinch the chopsticks together.
Better than I Thought

Update on my review:

I tried out the other trainers that came in my order and 4 out of 6 actually worked pretty well if I slid the chopsticks in from the top (as opposed to pushing them in like the instructions illustrate). Updating to a 3 star, since it seems you can get some duds in your order and the instructions don't seem to be the best, but at least you get a good amount of them to try out.

Previous review:

I was really disappointed with these. The first one I put a pair of chopsticks into snapped in two. I realised I was putting the trainer up too high on the stick (where it's thickest) and managed to not break the second one by placing it lower, but the trainer keeps popping off of the stick; it can't keep it's grip. If I put it any lower I won't be able to open and close the chopsticks!

I gave two stars since these might work with cheap wooden chopsticks you get with takeout (easier for grips), but definitely not smoother chopsticks. There have to be better chopstick trainers out there...

Just to clarify, I've used chopsticks for years. I'm quite good with them. I bought these trainers for my Dad for Christmas and wanted to make sure they were any good before I gifted them. So glad I did!
