So far it's good
Amazing console for the price point. Plug and play with my Mac Protools 11 configuration and controllable via MIDI from PT11.

I just got this console this week and while its still early and I have not discovered all the feature sets I have to report that for all intensive purposes this is a fantastic console. So then why am I only giving it 4 stars? Well I am knocking it for two main reasons. The first is that this unit uses USB2.0 but its a new console and that is just really a lousy engineering decision. USB3.0 has been around for years and is about 10x faster on transfer rate so compare 480Mbps to 5Gbs and you get the idea where a console with a large number of I/O should have it particularly if you are working with large numbers of tracks and plugs. This is just stupid IMO. Also can you believe they didn't include a cable for USB? Its not a big deal but I recycled all my long cables for USB2.O a long time ago and now I had to order a 15' one. I have several USB3.0 cables laying around. On a board this pricey that is really a stupidly avoidable oversight. Even my audiofire 12s came with firewire cables. Just silly.
The second reason I knocked it down was the hard set sample rate of 48Mhz. All my projects are 44.1 and I hate having to convert them. This is just silly since my audio fires support 44 to 192 and I think A&H could probably solve this with a firmware update. I think this will annoy a lot of folks but for me its not enough to can this otherwise stellar unit.
So the good:
32 channels in and out. That is great. Its a lot of IO for most people. I plan to reserve 24 for tracks and 8 for groups, FX whatever. But you can assign and save it as you see fit and recall and since its all digital you can change the assignments on the fly as needed and save templates etc. This is great.
Analog look and feel. This is a digital console with an Analog heart! Kinda like the Tin-man. It functions and feels like my old console in all the right ways without the headaches of the modular board it replaced. The monitors are silent and I have to say its really convenient. I worried having a single super strip would be inconvenient but it turns out I feel exactly the opposite about it! I can dial in a setting I like and replicate it to other strips. This is useful for something like drums that can occupy a lot of channels. I also love the touch screen and its just the right size for this board. I wouldn't mind it a tad bigger but its really ok. I think the earlier models are too small but then I have not worked with one yet either so I reserve the right to be totally wrong. :) I'm also digging the flying faders. Real star trek s*** there!
Mac plug and play and DAW control. This to me might just be the best part. I just plugged it into my mac and I was done. There in my setup for hardware was the que-32. Didn't have to install or configure ANYTHING. I did download the DAW app and configure the midi. That's a sweet feature that is only available for macs. If you use PT and PC, its probably time to switch for the features that you just don't get on PC. Mac isn't better than PC, its just different but for the music world pretty much everyone uses the mac versions. Just sayin'.
Ipad control! This is one of my favorite features. You can walk away from the console with it and mix etc. I don't really need this in a home studio but in a live application or sound check I can see where this would be extremely free. Its a free app for download. I think your firmware and app versions need to match btw. Current I want to say is 1.6.
Lots of videos on youtube and website from Allen and Heath on how to use your board and configure things like the MIDI DAW control. Super helpful and a great resource. Most of the other videos are basically marketing videos I dont find useful. These however were groups and short and sweet. Take a look. They are useful in deciding if you want to buy this unit. Most seem to be using Pro Tools on Mac.
The rest:
Ok so I didn't cover everything like the external hardware because it doesn't apply to my situation. However the one thing I think all of you are probably wondering is what to put it on. I know I sure did. I searched all over for the right stand and all I could find was essentially a folding keyboard stand that didnt offer much in the way of confidence with such a pricey piece of my wallet. Then I came across an amazon recommendation during my search that was 100% perfect for this console. That is the Calico Designs 50401 Monterey Desk with Black Glass. Is pretty much the exact size of this unit, and its only 85 bucks. It looks sexy, its solid and it has a small footprint which worked great in my space. Its taking up half the space of my former TAC Scorpion Console that died on me and I have to say I am just thrilled with how it looks and fits. See the pictures but if you buy this board, I think this should be your table\stand. I added the link below. Since I am prime it showed up before my console. BTW I got my console on sale for $2849! That's basically the cost of the QU-24. Keep an eye out for deals. They are there. Cheers, Peter
