A perfect match to replace the basket in our KitchenAid dishwasher - even has the KitchenAid name on the handle like the original. There is a design flaw with the KitchenAid dishwasher KUDS40FVBL4 and others similar to this model, in that the heating element runs directly under the back half of the basket and is too close for the basket material, making it brittle over time from extreme heat. If you notice, the bottom front of the basket doesn't experience this type of degradation because the heating element is angled there and not directly underneath. Ours is about 5 years old and was starting to fall apart from underneath. It is NOT because of sharp silverware, as some reviewers have incorrectly speculated. Look underneath the basket and you'll see it's been baked and brittle from the heat. Always put your sharp knives in point down for safety - that is not the cause of this problem; the heat is the cause. This is a perfect replacement, but it shouldn't need to be replaced in such short time. Love the dishwasher and our other KitchenAid appliances, but KitchenAid/Whirlpool should provide a replacement due to the flaw in their design.

It is hard to believe the price on this thing from is a bargain - from Amazon, that is. Our original was decomposing after only a few years. I am pretty sure the reason for the thing falling apart is that the part of the basket going to the back of the dishwasher is directly over part of the heat coil, close enough to cause damage over time. I contacted the manufacturer for a goodwill replacement - no dice. They offered to sell me one - for $55!

EDIT 3/31/17 - I want to spread the word about my experience with KitchenAid (Whirlpool Corp) on this silverware basket. Before ordering here, I called their contact center to ask for a goodwill replacement (dishwasher is out of warranty), They said no. While shopping for the best price, I saw a boatload of posts by people experiencing the same problems with warping and disintegration of the basket. I am convinced the basket problem is caused by a design defect in all of their dishwashers where the basket goes on the side. The rear of the basket sits directly over the heat coil. I believe that proximity to the heat coil causes degradation of the basket over time. I again contacted KitchenAid with this information and asked for a goodwill reimbursement for the basket I bought here. They said no - again. This is very different from my experience with an out of warranty problem on a GE refrigerator. GE took care of the problem, although they were not obligated to do anything. KitchenAid's approach is that once out of warranty, the problems belong to the customers. Consider that when you next shop for major appliances.
EDIT 6/11/17 - I must have caused Whirlpool some embarrassment. They came thru with a reimbursement check and apology. Still, my experience with out of warranty situations has been outstanding with GE, not so much with Whirlpool.

It is my 3rd replacement for this basket. I would have given it 5 stars except that the dishwasher itself has the flaw of the heating elements being too close and this basket melts over time. If the basket had a metal bottom it would get too hot and might damage something in the dishwasher or on your counter if you take it out to put dishes away. You cannot move or adjust the heating elements so there is nothing you can do except buy replacement baskets - so this time I bought 2 of them.

Our older KitchenAid (KUDL model) dishwasher silverware rack had some of the bottoms broken out in places, causing silverware to fall through Some spots. I was afraid this one wouldn't fit an older model. I took the measurements and they compared to ours, even though the compartments with lids were located differently. I didn't want to have to pay return shipping, but I didn't want to pay $49, the manufacturer's charge for the part number they gave me (that was not this part number). I read another review who said this was listed as a Whirlpool part, but it says KitchenAid on the handle. I'm so glad I ordered this one. It fits perfectly! I don't have to worry about silverware falling through or damage to the dishwasher because of the damaged rack. Thanks for a great product, Amazon!
