can be used to boot into Windows 10 externally but extremely slow
Ramin A.•November 7, 2017
Doesn't work well as an external boot drive for windows contrarty to some other reviews suggesting it would (maybe those reviewers were using Linux or Mac, I don't know).
Well, I should say it technically works but very slowly. There is a trick to change some drive settings but those have to be set on each boot and it is very slow until you do that.
To speed up windows when running off the external drive, I went into Properties (right-click on the drive) -> Hardware -> Properties -> Change Settings (made sure my drive was selected if others are present), and then selected "better performance" + "enable write chaching" + "turn off windows write-cache" -- the last one really did the trick and running windows off the external mSATA is very quick.
Changed to 1 star after it stopped working after 3 boots. It now takes forever to boot from. Also, I asked their tech support and they were of no help.

Drive case is very nifty and well set up.
Cons:
gets RIDICULOUSLY hot.
Cable that came with it was bad but got a replacement right away by contacting tech support via email. they were great. I knew it was the cable because i have a few other devices using the same style and when i switched to those cables the problem went away immediately and those other devices started having issues.
Cable came in a matter of days and all has been working well since then!

Brilliant when you need to get data off the hard-drive of a non-booting computer!

This has been such a life-saver! My laptop died a couple of weeks ago, and although most of my stuff was in the cloud, there were some file that don't play nice with the likes of dropbox, and I was worried that I had lost them. A couple of screws later, and a bit of googling about changing the ownership of a user folder in windows 10, and I have access to everything. And I now also have a USB3 SSD.
The case is solid, and there are no problems with soldering points shorting out the circuit through contact with the case, like in the 2.5" variant. The box includes a screwdriver, so I don't really see why anyone would need to go for a tool-less option over this. It does get hot when running at full load, but that's to be expected. Just don't leave it on top of anything too flammable when you're transferring large files...
I would buy this again in an instant.

Nice little enclosure
Arthur S•May 13, 2016
Nice, very compact enclosure to make an mSATA SSD drive portable. Nicely made, and they even include a cute little green screwdriver in case you don't have one to secure the two screws that hold the unit together once you've put the drive inside. Performance figures over USB 3 are very good, although not consistent over the different computers I've attached the unit to. The unit appears to be SATA 3 (6 Gbps) internally, as I've seen sustained read/write performance (as measured by CrystalDiskMark) of over 300 MB/sec, but this is not consistent from computer to computer. I haven't been able to pin down exactly what's causing that.. It may depend on your OS (I tried this under Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1), the USB 3 chipset in your computer, and the driver used for that chipset. In other words, "Your mileage may vary", but I don't think that's due to the enclosure itself. If anyone else with this enclosure knows more I'd appreciate hearing about it.
good enclosure, flimsy cable. (cable DOA)

UPDATE: They've followed up on my review and sent me a replacement USB 3.0 cable. How awesome is that. changing my 3 star review to 5 star. they are one of the best customer service there is on Amazon.
USB type 3.0 came defected. other than that product works like as it should once I replaced the defected cable with my trusted 3.0 cable from the monoprice. I had 32GB mSATA samsung drive sliding around my room and I thought I should put it to a good use by installing this enclosure with it. write and read speeds are matched with my samsung drive, very impressed. write speed is consistent @ 84MB/s (peaks at 140) and read speed is @ 300MB/s+ (peaks at 500)
took 2 stars off because of that broken USB cable. otherwise it would have been awesome 5 star.. if seller sees this and send me a cable, i'd give full stars.
