I use it to sharpen pencils for meticulous writing needing a very fine point. Providing you take the time to learn how to adjust it, and to use it, you will be very satisfied.

As an Office Supply Connoisseur Extraordinaire, I admit I probably spend far too much money on high-priced writing instruments, stationery, and accessories. But most, if not all of my purchases have proved not only useful, but have also brought me great pleasure. What good are one's possessions if they do not bring one pleasure and satisfaction, I ask.

It is both utilitarian and simply beautiful to behold.
Not only does it sharpen my Blackwing's and professional colored pencils to perfection, but it is also a delight to the senses: while resting in its elegant, old-world black leather case; or to turn over and over in ones hand while contemplating the next Great American Novel ;)

In any event, this well-crafted, high-quality instrument recalls days gone by-- when simple, everyday objects were made to last and were also lovely to look at.

As others have noted, the DUX Variable deluxe pencil sharpening tool isn't a necessity but it is certainly something to be desired, acquired, and treasured for a lifetime.

UPDATE (24 Jan 2017): I so enjoyed my first Deluxe DUX, I purchased a second one. Now I have one in my desk drawer, and a second to carry in my bag. Simply Delectable!

Perfect, love that it sharpens different pencils

I enjoy using this sharpen on a daily basis. It feels sturdy in my hand and delivers an exceptional point on any of the three settings.

What an exceptional sharpener. At first, I couldn't quite justify how I spent about $20 on a handheld pencil sharpener, but I am quite happy with my decision. Cleanly sharpens cedar-cased pencils, basswood-cased pencils, ebony pencils, etc. to a fine point without lead breakage or splintering wood. Feels quite hefty in the hand, and the selector knob clicks into place with a satisfying tactile feel and audible 'click'. Shipping was as fast as I imagine it could be (seeing as it was shipped directly from Germany to Alabama, USA). As an artist, designer, and pencil enthusiast, I recommend it highly.
