Maybe I just got a bad unit but I tried connecting it to 3 different ...
Amazon Customer•August 18, 2017
Maybe I just got a bad unit but I tried connecting it to 3 different computers using USB 3.0 and 2.0 and I could never get it to be recognized even with the included driver disc and utilities. I'm returning it.
Update - I was contacted by Inateck and they did a very good job of attempting to rectify this issue. They even offered to replace the unit free of charge after I received my refund. I turned that offer down but to make up for the problem they shipped me an alternate item instead.
I've upped my rating to 4 stars because they seem to stand by their product even if a specific unit happens to be bad. Things happen and sometimes a bad unit gets shipped. That can happen even with the best of suppliers.

Not speedy, but reliable,

This is a must for anyone who has an interest in computers! I have 3 dead HDDs from computers and wanted to get data back lost on them. So far, I am recovering one drive and will be recovering the others. While this does not come with good software, getting a program is not difficult to get and use.
The comprehensive software I am using requires 6 days to get all of the data off the drive, which includes overwritten files, I will now have the choice to delete or keep recovered files.

Works very well

Made for cloning/copying drives, included utilities are for this. Works well when it works, but some drives just will not mount. I have some 5.25" SATA disks that were working when they were in a (now decommissioned) Win10 desktop, that I wanted to read some data from. One comes up flawlessly, the other will not show up. No error messages, no indication of any problem even though the drive spins up. Would be great if there were some troubleshooting resources made available for determining if a drive is dead or not.
UPDATE 02/14/2017: Inateck customer service contacted me regarding this review and worked with me to identify the problem. Eventually they suggested a replacement unit and I accepted. It was shipped promptly, and the new unit works very well. I must say this is stellar customer service since the intermittent nature of my problem did not clearly indicate that their hardware was faulty. I recommend this product and company.

This device saved my @ss!
Peerpub•January 13, 2017
What an amazing device. This saved my @ss. My PC crashed and would no longer boot. In the interim, it was very important that I retrieve the data on the 2 internal hard drives. I was worried that since I didn't back up my computer files in about a year, I would loose ALL of the important data. Not the case with this device. I was able to transfer my files onto a working computer.
Has Some Problems on some HDs....

I got this to try be able to check out some older IDE type hard drives I have around the house. I have a number of EIDE drives and I wanted to check them out and see what was on them. (In the pass, I have lost some programs due to not being able to check the drives out as I didn't have IDE interface on the newer systems I got. I do know that I've lost a few things that I would like to get back, if possible.) This item was suppose to allow IDE drives to be accessed and read. It works for some of the drives but it seems to be sold mainly as a back up solution, At least, according to the directions included. It will read some drives well, but others not so great. Again Seagate drives were a problem and I had a Maxxor which read fine at first but after a few reads stopped being seen by the OS. (This might be that Win 10 updated itself while I was starting out this on my system and that may have messed me up. All I know is it would not read the Maxxor after that.) I also ran into the problem, that drive would be "
seen" but Win 10 couldn't read anything on the drive just the fact that you had a drive there.(No format type, capacity, etc.) I 'm saving this item for future use but when it works it's great.
