Epic sound quality worth every penny!
LivnWell365•July 10, 2017
As a YouTube influencer and music producer, I rely on high quality sound devices to get the job done right. Honestly, I was skeptical and doubted that such of small and inexpensive microphone was going to catch any audio better than my camcorder's internal mic. Well, I was wrong and yet impressed.
This small condenser comes with an approx. 20 feet cable; it's nice that I don't have to attach a sound cable extension to reach my camera audio port. By the way, a male stereo 1/4 inch adapter is included in the package so you can use this mic on pretty much anything with an audio input port of that size. At the mic end of the cable, there is a casing with a 3v battery slot (battery included as well). The top of the microphone casing covers the battery, you just have to twist it carefully so it won't cross-thread over the bottom end of it. Also, it has a button where you can switch off the power and use the condenser with your tablet or smartphone. The casing is very light and it feels made out of aluminum, but is quite durable.
To test this condenser, I plugged it to my Canon VIXIA HF R700 Camcorder and started recording. I asked my wife to set the condenser about 3 feet away from her and to whisper anything very softly; then, to yell very loud while wearing on her shirt with it's clip. Wow! It did pick up her voice extremely clearly when she whispered in the distance, and her voice didn't pop out when she yelled. I even said a few words while standing 20 feet away by the camera and my voice was picked up by it as well. We also tried the same test using our cell phones, coming up with the same awesome results. I have to include that its small profile allow me to easily conceal it under my shirt with no issues, no tugging, and no muffled sound.
From this point on, my live recordings and YouTube videos will never sound the same, but greatly better thanks to this mic. For quality, sensitivity, durability, portability and performance; this BOYA Condenser Microphone truly deserves 5 stars.

Boya Lavalier Microphone is worth every penny!
Gadget girl•March 27, 2017
I had been looking for a small mic that would be mac compatible I wanted something good so I purchased SmartLav for $85! Not worth it it feels cheap and the cord is very short plus it disnt work with my Mac I tried purchasing a splitter. Then I found the Boya lavalier mic!! It worked great out of the box and sounds great! It is easy to put together and the cord is very long, doesn't feel flimsy or cheap it is very good quality and sounds great when making YouTube videos which is why I purchased it, works with my Mac, iPhone and iPad and God knows what else.
It is a great microphone and the price is right for $20 you can't go wrong it is better then all those expensive mic's out there.

Great but not perfect.

For the money, you can't beat this mic. Most people are probably plugging this directly into a camera or a phone and for that, it is a great mic. I, however, am using a Zoom H4N and I have to use the provided adapter to fit the 1/4 inch input on my recorder. It could be that mine is defective but the adapter fits extremely loosely onto the 3.5mm jack. So loosely that I can't use it.
About four months ago, I was in a pinch and needed a mic while I was out of town. I ran into this exact same mic, although branded as "Insignia" at Best Buy. I foolishly purchased it for over $60.00 only to find this one a couple months later on a youtube review. Truly, I only purchased this BOYA mic to compare and confirm that I got burned at Best Buy. Both mics appear to be the identical piece of hardware. The Insignia mic did come with a small leatherette pouch and a much better adapter that works on both mics without issue.

You get more than what you pay for!

Way better than expected for the price! Not only is the sound quality superb, but it's also amazing quality. Comes with metal battery pack that switches between camera and smartphone, one battery, pop filter, 20 feet cord, extended adapter jack, velcro strap and clip on microphone and battery pack. You really get a bang for you buck. For $20, no one can complain. It's great for interviews AND informative speaking. I personally think it sounds better without the pop filter but it's great to have it. Highly recommend for anyone who wants acceptable audio quality. Also the 20 feet cord seems way longer than it is which is always a good thing!
BUY THIS MIC.

Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a wireless mic, record with this and put your smart phone in your back pocket and you've got a perfect setup. Just match it with video in post and you're running a pro setup. It sounds so much better than what YouTube reviews make it out to sound like. I use this for interviews and it is absolutely worth more than it costs.
Pros:
- LOTS of cord. I mean, way more than you will ever need.
- professional sounding audio with good mic placement
- metal clip and battery housing.
- battery housing has it's own clip for a pocket or belt
- plug and play
- did I mention plenty of cord?
Cons:
- wind cover is prone to popping off
