Seems good so far. I suppose a review on this item is only meaningful after this has gone through water or fire--which mine hasn't. But it certainly feels better to have documents and a backup hard drive a bit more secured than they were previously.
I was disappointed to see the exact same model at Lowes for $15 less a week after I bought this on Amazon. But I won't hold that against the product. I certainly double check local prices more now though.

Feels Better Than Not Having One--A Better Size Than Most

I love the bigger size of this box but I wish it was just a tad bigger. Our marriage certificate is far larger than I thought, and that's something I want to keep safe, of course. Still, it will fit with maybe a little warping or laid against a sturdy piece of fiberboard or cardboard. Good for most documents, insurance papers, contact information sheets, and more than adequately sized for CD ROMS and thumbdrives full of family photos, etc. I hope we never have to worry about it working in a fire, but it doesn't have to try. This is a HEAVY box and not so easy to just jolt out of your house with. Not a safe but not lightweight. I have some hope it'll be waterproof or strong enough to withstand some falling debris in an earthquake. The handle appears to be hard core and though there are just keys to open it, you would need a locksmith to open it after a fire (most likely) anyway.
Highly suggest some of those silica packets to keep the things inside dry. I haven't seen or smelled moisture but it's just a good idea.

Heavier than expected. I wish that the inside was just a bit deeper, but overall I'm satisfied.

Less than one year after my purchase of this Sentry Safe and the handle has broken off while trying to open the safe. I have tried re-attaching it and failed. Thankfully it is unlocked and is able to open, so I was able to remove my documents and put them elsewhere for safekeeping. I'm very disappointed that the handle was made with such poor design and thin, flimsy plastic. Now what am I supposed to do with it?

This fireproof documents safe is *perfect* for what it is, and for the class it is in! I bought this one because it is one of the few that is rated at 1700 degrees for an hour, rather than a half hour, Sentry is a known brand, and the price can't be beat! (Most of the others in the price range are rated at only 1/2 hour).
Besides that, I specifically wanted one that uses a *key*, because electronic mechanisms can be damaged more readily in a fire, can malfunction, etc.. Sometimes the simplest, oldest technology is the best.
Is it heavy? No heavier than it *claims* to be (come on people, it says right in the description that it weighs almost 30 pounds, not sure why that's a surprise when it arrives?) It has to be that heavy to have that much protective material to protect in a fire for an hour.
In terms of actual size, etc... it looks pretty much exactly like a case for a portable electric typewriter (remember those?).
The clincher for me (after it arrived) was that my boyfriend, who used to be a firefighter, said it was a very good quality fireproof safe. When it gets my picky, exacting boyfriend's seal of approval, well, I know it was the right choice. ;~)

Very sturdy. I bought it more to protect items from fire than from someone stealing them. I did place a few silica gel packs inside and also put paperwork inside plastic bags to protect it.
