No trigger...just pump and go. We had an indoor water fight, and I switched off the breaker...and it really glowed...not sure how many others would do this...but it made my son an easier target when no lights were on!

We got three of them two months ago. We've had lots of kids from 2 to 10-years-old use them and everyone thinks they are awesome. I would say that 2-years-old is the youngest that could probably handle it. Ours is strong with very good motor skills. I don't know that his sisters could have managed it at his age.
